On my way to work this morn I heard the full version of Layla on the in car radiogram and couldnt help thinking that the second part is totally unnecessary what with all the plinky piano and slide guitar noodlings and the barest hint of a tune. What other tunes would've been perfectly fine without a load of superfluous lily gilding? Hey Jude and Sympathy for the Devil are two more that should've been shorn of all 4 plus mins of pointless droning..the laah, laah, laaah lalalalaarrrrrgh!! and wooh, wooh ..wooh wooh bits respectively.

Lou's Metal Machine Music could have had a couple of minutes shaved off. Of course his real fans would argue that it should be remastered with a additional disc containing interesting 'outtakes' and edits

The harmonica solo at the end of Kate Bush's remake of Deeper Understanding could have been cut, as it seems to belong on Steve Hackett's Blues With A Feeling album or any episode of 'According To Jim'!

On a just completed cross-country road trip was introduced to the 'delights' of Moby. Every single 'song' should be reduced to 5 secs max, sprinkled with salt and pepper and thrown in the bin.

Can't stand Meatloaf but I could probably put up with the music a little better if Jim Steinman didn't have this annoying habit of sometimes repeating whole verses and (more often) doing choruses to death thus dragging the works out to twice the length they should be.

All Queen's songs should have that horrendous overdubbed multi-layered screeching removed and what's left should be sprinkled with salt and pepper and thrown in the bin.

Dharma for One - Jethro Tull (This Was) and short too

the album version of Brubeck's Take Five has a rather insipid drum bit that out stays its welcome

Sacrilege!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How could you get rid of Joe Morellos drum solo????????????????? It is nothing like a rock drum solo, it has swing, feel and is a masterclass in how to capture the sound of a drum kit. I say this as a hater of drum solos at concerts, so I agree with the essence of your wish, but not in this case, Huck!

:-(
