Starapple says:
I need some music for my studies to help me concentrate, but it has to meet certain criteria or its a no go:

1. Prefer Jazz/Blues/Reggae/Rock anything really (world music perhaps?), but mellow, no crazy stuff (Jazz).
2. No singing, I find that I get pulled out of my concentration/thinking if I hear words.
3. Prefer real instruments (not so much electronic stuff).
4. Would be nice if it had some classical music infusion.

I have a couple of bar music CD's but its getting boring listening to the same stuff all the time.

This is a difficult one and I cannot find anything suitable. Would be grateful if someone could help this girl out for any tips or pointers in some musical direction.

Thank you!

Starapple

Try Liona Boyd. Classical guitarist but the PERSONA album has Clapton & Gilmour helping out. All instrumental with great tunes.

Taking electronica out of the equation is denying yourself some albums that would be just the ticket. Having a quick look at my collection, absolutely nothing meets your criteria, sorry.

You need the wonderful Keith Jarrett. Try The Köln Concert and RIO. Beautiful classical/jazz piano. Though you might get caught up in it and forget to work!

@ The Foe: What do you have which is electronic? When I said electronic I meant the awful repeat boom, boom, boom... stuff... LOL

Keith Jarrett is good but a little bit too intensive.

Acoustic Alchemy is very good, from there I found a few albums that will do the job for the next couple of weeks:
The Very Best Of Smooth Jazz Guitar: which has Acoustic Alchemy in it as well.
Sensuous Smooth Jazz Guitar
Jazz On A Summers Day - HD Remastered 2010 (It has a few singers on it, but they are not overpowering).

But would be nice to have some with a Reggae feel to it too.

May even get: The Very Best Of Acoustic Alchemy
Edit: I got this one too....... So £50 later I am well stocked for the next 3 or 4 months, till Christmas really.

Also got: Reggae Soul Jazz - Nigel Williams and
Reggae Gold Reggae Jazz - Various Artists

Thanks all for your help...... ;-)

Hi Starapple, I have quite a lot of downtempo electronic music unfortunately most have vocals. There was a band called Blue (not the boy band) who have an album called 'Resistance', you can buy it from Amazon for just under £2. Here's a taster http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oc1FRtaJcNM

I know you don't like the idea of vocals, but Chilled Jazz is a brilliant double cd, featuring acts like Groove Armada, Randy Crawford, Courtney Pine, Nelly Furtado, Sigur Ros. It's mellow enough to have as background but not so mellow that it makes you fall asleep.

anything on the ECM label - chamber jazz beautiful stuff - can be loved in the background, but bears close aural scrutiny also - treat yourself to a bit of class...The Koln Concert

Hi Star

Glad you got the Acoustic Alchemy, I find it helps me when I need to be nicely zoned and it is important to be doing things correctly. Checkout http://www.acoustic-alchemy.net/ for their discography and links to similar.

Glad to have helped and good luck in all you do.

With some further thought you could try (for something a little more upbeat)

The Rippingtons
Spyro Gyra
Mezzoforte

or a little more chilled...

Chill Out Music (Instrumental) by Craig Austin
Cafe Del Mar series - delightful relaxing chill out instrumental music

and for some royalty free background stuff go to http://backgroundmusics.com

Enjoy!

Thanks again. I also already have the Cafe del mar series.

The backgroundmusics website seems to be down.

Craig Austin is not for me nor is the airport music.

Thanks
