Never had a problem with box sets save one and that was the GD Spring 1990 box which is a big one and was split on one corner. Can't blame the packaging though as the expensive GD boxes are always extremely well packed.

Never thought of that Peter good thinking. I must have been at the back of the queue when the brains were dished out. I will try harder to be like you.

...THINK I'd RATHER HAVE A COMPANY THAT COULD BUILD A CONSERVATORY that didn't need constant repairs meself ;¬)

I've stopped looking for the cheapest on offer. I now buy all my expensive music box sets from a shop if I can. I'd rather pay 10 quid more and have the opportunity to inspect before I buy. I don't mind a cheap CD dropping through the letter box in pieces but I've had 2 £100 box sets arrive with significant damage. I've never shopped in Argos but good service is the most important factor for me. I don't buy from Currys anymore because of poor service. I bought a conservatory 12 years ago with a 10 year guarantee. The company I bought it from are still providing me with free repairs and they call within 2 days of me ringing them. Sky TV are always on the ball these days they've improve their customer service in recent years.

I rarely buy from Argos but a while ago I bought a large armchair from Homebase (Argos supplies their furniture). It was reasonably priced and I'm very pleased with it. However the delivery men dumped it in the front room and weren't going to unpack it until I asked. How can you sign it's OK if it's in its carton?
I then asked them to take away the (3' x 3' x 3') carton which after much muttering and jobsworth stuff, they did. Later on I discovered it down the side of the garage. I emailed Argos but never got a reply.

Argos are bloody rubbish Al. Only today my wife bought a hoover from them, I told her to buy the same one as mine as it's light and powerful. When I put it together I realised it wasn't the same at all. Checked the catalogue number on the reciepts and they were identical. My hoover is a light 4.7kg, hers was 7kg, the capacity was also different. When we phoned them up it took them a long time to admit their mistake. The model she bought today isn't even sold by Argos.

Isn't that what shopping at Argos was once all about Foe...they've gone back to the 'good old days' then...:-)

EDIT: Years ago went into Argos at Chatham, right next door to a place I was doing some work in, I was bright and early on a Monday morning as needed some batteries and a new torch and they had an offer. Filled out my slip...waited...waited...my number stayed stuck with 'wait' (or similar) on the screen. Eventually the 'please collect' message shows and a push chair and batteries awaited me. Girl said 'you'll have to make out another slip' - did so, showed the girl and she confirmed it was correct.......and another push chair appeared.

Seems the girl sorting had started that day, wasn't British, and didn't understand a 7 without the line through it's stem. She read it as a 4....twice.

Since living here I've made that mistake a couple of times and been met with puzzled expressions and asked for clarification of the number. It's not THAT different to me...but they really couldn't make it out as a 7! To me it looks more like a 4 with the stroke through the stem!!!

No, but did get a couple of texts at the start of the year from Argos, reservation confirmations for items I hadn't reserved.

I had a few round Xmas time plus a couple of supposed PayPal ones too. As you say, badly done.
