I would never post up a quantity, but it sounds as if you've got the start of a collection delthelaw ;-)

CDs to the value of £15.50 - not bad. I'd have them insured for 20 quid, just to be on the safe side ;-)

I've got a fair few..well lots really, but not masses.

I have nothing by Tom Jones. Is that unusual?

That's what I call a collection, makes mine seem small by comparison. Is your musical taste eclectic? I tend to buy anything and everything. You get some great bargains on Amazon sometimes for 1p.

DAS, glad to hear you use your libraries so much for accessing music, I'm always trying to promote ours where I work, we have a really wide range, covering many genres, as you mentioned above, plus all the latest chart releases and can inter-library loan from other counties when necessary. Good on you for supporting your library service.

Brass Neck says:
But the oiks that borrow them trash them in record time. Even if you find a cd that's only been loaned out once or twice the playing surface is liberally smeared with fingerprints and scratched to buggery. And then the libaray service sticks its loan stamp card and other stuff to the booklet so you can't get a decent scan of it when copying!!! ;¨)

Tut tut BN (copyright laws etc), we have cd cleaners now at our library for cleaning the discs, they generally aren't too bad anyhow when returned. If it's that bad where you are, then the trick is to be first to borrow them, request the titles before they come in then you can be top of the list for that title.
Also, where I work, we buy multiple copies of popular titles to spread across the county, so at least one of the multiple copies (out of say, 5 or 6 copies), should be ok, if one of our gets damaged, at least on of the others should be still ok. We don't put anything on ouor booklets etc, just a ticket on the outside of the case which doesn't obscure the track listing.

Our libraries (run by Hampshire CC god help us) put up the cost of borrowing to £1 and to request from new, i.e. get a decent copy, costs a further 50p. Then I thought that's not a lot less than I can pick up CDs from Amazon sellers and Ebay. So I stopped borrowing them and started buying them which gives me something physical to hold and a lot less work scanning the art work, etc. And if I get tired of them I can sell them on, in which case, I'm definitely quids in over getting the CD from the library.

See now, here was me getting all jealous of DAS when he said he had 8600 CDs (and rising). I was under the impression we were counting actual physical CDs that we own, not ones that have been ripped or downloaded.
If we are counting ripped ones and downloads as well, oh oh, I think I might be a bit obessesive.

Our County doesn't charge for requests from other libraries in our county or nearest neighbouring county, it's 85p to loan items for a 3 week period and for 2 months in the summer we run a hire one get one free promotion on all audio/visual, so time it right and you get 2 cds/dvds/audio bks for 85p for a 3 week loan, not bad really. Don't think even amazon could beat that much

Physically I have just under 3400 items. About 2000 of which is vinyl, takes up two spare rooms. I'm actually trying to shift some to make room for more. So, shameless plug, have a look at my inventory!!!
