Hi guys, what do you think? Should Led Zeppelin be in the
'Top MP3 Albums in Folk Music'?

1. Led Zeppelin III by Led Zeppelin
2. Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin
(...)

I don't think so, it's more RocknRoll (EDIT: sorry, I meant Rock, whatever sub-genre there ever is) isn't it? Let me know your opinion :D.

Zoso says:
Ahh whats in a name, I never paid much attention to genres anyway. Led Zep are one of many examples of a band that are impossible to put in one category. For example if I had to talk genres,I would use folk to describe some of their music, but I wouldnt use RocknRoll to describe any of it. But the point is lots of bands are very hard to shoehorn into one convenient box.

Al Iguana says:
granted, Led Zep make some hippy-folky tunes, but generally they are rock/space-rock/progressive rock.

The folk category should be Kate Rusby, Shirley Collins, Fernhill, Seth Lakeman etc etc. At a pinch you could add the likes of Clannad and Capercaille. But "being influenced by folk music" isn't the same as making folk music. Adam and the Ants made a rap song, should they be #1 in the Hip-Hop/Rap category? I think not.

Daniel Batts says:
personally I always thought III was pretty folky. Starts with Imm. Song if I remember, so that kills my theory, but there's a few very folky moments, specially That's the Way, lovely folky tune for you, so it's not completely off... The first album is a straight out rocker tho isn't it? with some psychedelia for good measure, sign of the times - the breakdown in Dazed and Confused in partic. Genre is a daft way of defining music in many ways really, and as someone already noted one of the things that made Zeppelin a great band, and the major reason the leagues of imitators they spawned (and the awful trashy metal beasts along the way represent some of the worse music of all time, from FM metal to hair rock, Whitesnake, Poison, cringeworthy, horrible...) totally failed to reproduce the magic is a) they were four great musicians with an incredible musical chemistry, and b) they weren't bound by stupid ideas of genre, just made some enduring great music, and that, as the song says, is the way it's gotta be. Peace.

David Morgan says:
Robert Plant has recently made an album with Allison Krauss so perhaps there was a country/folk lover fronting this essentially head banging band.
