Bought a track
Amazon's dumb downloader installed
No sign of the music and no link anywhere in My Orders to download it, nor in email confirmation of Order.
Absurd, ill-considered rubbish

Yup - same happened to me. Customer support has responded quickly but hasn't resolved the issue.

Hi,
I think the download process differs depending on what system you're using. When I add an item to my basket and go through payment I'm directed to another page for music to be downloaded and says at the top thank you for your order - you must not leave this page!
There will not be any link in your email confirmation or in Your Orders page, just in this page you were directed to after payment which I suspect you left.
I have the amazon downloader installed and when I purchase downloads, a download link takes a few moments to appear (again you must not navigate away from the page you are directed to as the download link will not appear). When this does, click on download link then click open .amz file (not save) to launch the downloader program and complete the download.
If the downloader doesn't automatically start at this stage, start the download via the 'click here' link on the page you were directed to (another reason not to navigate away from it).
The downloader symbol should appear in your toolbar during the download process and messages pop up informing you which tracks are downloading and which have finished.
The only problems I've had is with cookies so you may need to check your system and delete cookies as these can prevent you downloading.
I hope I've been some help!!

It sounds like Amazon need to make this simpler, because I was going to buy Rumers album, but this discussion of the hassle other people have had has put me right off.
Your reply to Mrs. B. A. Richards's post:
To insert a product link use the format: [[ASIN:ASIN product-title]] (What's this?)

It's not hard. You just have to read the instructions. Which includes that you unblock what your popup blocker blocked. There is usually a notice at the top or bottom of your browser depending on what you're using.

Helen says:
No it's not difficult to download just make sure you don't move away from the page you are taken to. I must admit I have never had the message about unblocking pop ups but I suppose it depends on what browser/system you're using. If you want to try downloading but don't want to lose money if things go wrong, why not try it out on the free tracks available - this is what I did when I first started downloading from amazon. That way you don't lose out if it doesn't work.

I have the amazon Mp3 app on my phone but I have never used it. Any music I have placed on my android phone I have already downloaded onto my computer and just transferred across. Personally I find the process easy but I know a lot of people haven't. As I explained in my previous posts, don't move away from the page amazon takes you when payment has completed and that way you can use the link shown on this page to start the download if it doesn't start manually. Do try it out with the free tracks if downloading for the first time as it least you won't be out of pocket if it doesn't work for you!

Same thing happened to me, twice over the last couple of days. Previous to this no problems. Absolultely no idea where my music has gone.

Hi Venetian Creative,
It's a bit strange that twice your music has disappeared. I have had a delay in the music downloading before so I've had to start the download manually but I've never encountered that problem before.
I suggest going to the downloader help pages and then contact customer support if you haven't already as there may be a problem they're not aware of.
One of the problems with Amazon is you can't re-download music as some other sites let you do (not itunes as I have never used this). Play for example keep the downloads stored so you can view them and download them several times if you need to without being charged again.
It's a shame Amazon doesn't do the same!!

I recommend getting in touch with Amazon customer support if you haven't already as there must be a problem with it if albums were readily available to download. The album that's missing wasn't a preorder was it? As preordered albums won't download until release date but would still show up as having been purchased in your orders and on confirmation email. Also tracks from an album that has not been released yet will say 'not available' . Either way I'd get in touch with Amazon.

I have downloaded loads of albums , never had a problem, BUT you must make sure you read each page and the illustrations , if it says you are to click OPEN then do so if you ignore the instructions or dont read the instructions, its like any download you will encounter problems. Using their download system does seem longwinded , but it works so I guess most dont encounter problems.

Just tried it on a free track to try as I don't want to purchase any other music at the moment and the downloader worked fine starting up at the bottom of the browser and when the downloader symbol showed up completely green I clicked on it to open and then my music downloaded. After you paid as long as you don't navigate away from the 'thank you' confirmation page you shouldn't have a problem. Did you try starting the download manually through the link under the important message at the bottom of the confirmation page?
Important Message reads:
'Digital items: The Amazon MP3 Downloader should download your digital purchases momentarily. If it does not, click here [link] to start the download. The Amazon MP3 Downloader will add your music to iTunes or Windows Media Player. Once the download finishes, go to iTunes or Windows Media Player to find and play your Amazon MP3s. If you are prompted to Open or Save an .amz file, be sure to click Open.
If you experience trouble with the Amazon MP3 Downloader, please visit Amazon MP3 Downloader help.'

Hi, just happened to me!!! I have been downloading music from amazon for years without really any hassle so there must be a problem with the downloader program. The free track I downloaded earlier was fine but this one although it downloaded it didn't get added to Windows Media Player automatically like it should have done. I had to go into my files/libraries then to my download files, search for the track, right click on it to bring up the menu then go to 'add to Windows Media Player' and add the track manually. This is a lot of hassle and something I have to do when I download from Play.com which is why I download more from Amazon. Will be searching the help pages then getting in touch with amazon to inform them of the problem if it persists. Apologies to the rest of you having problems as I thought you were not following the instructions properly. I stand corrected.

I downloaded over 400 tracks with the old downloader, on a Mac with Leopard. I have just got a MacBook with Lion and kept being prompted to download the new super improved mp3 downloader. This, of course, does not work. When I try to pay for a download, I am told to install the new mp3 downloader, despite the fact that it was in Applications and on my dock already. A computer literate friend removed all my old downloader stuff and we started again. New super-whizzy downloader downloaded precisely one track, then the next time I tried to buy a track, it prompted me to install the new downloader. I have attempted to do this umpteen times. It will not install itself. I contacted Amazon. They replied that I could download the track without their downloader. No, I can't, because it won't let me buy the track because I have to install the downloader first. Anybody else out there going nuts with same problem? If you find an answer, something Amazon can't do, I would be delighted to hear from you. Many thanks.

Seriously - the exact same problem, I bought it, it's in my recent purchases but does it apear to download or a download link? no. Second time I've bought an mp3 (ordered an album before) and second time this has happened. Seriously don't think I'll use Amazon again for mp3s. Don't even know where to look for help on how to get my file!!!

I contacted Amazon (contact us link) and got an e-mail back within 90 mins saying this:

TO DOWNLOAD FROM YOUR ACCOUNT:

1. Go to the "Your Account" page on the Amazon website, it can be found in the top right hand side of most pages on the website next to basket and help

2. Click on the "Your Orders" button and sign in with your e-mail address and password

3. Once you are viewing your recent orders find the order in question and click on the "View Order Details" link underneath the order date

4. On the next page which opens you should see a yellow/beige coloured dialogue box which is entitled "You Have MP3 Downloads" in red

5. If you have the Downloader installed, within the dialogue box you should see the blue underlined link and a list of the tracks which have been made available to you. Please be mindful that this is a single use link and will become deactivated after you click on it. Clicking multiple times may cause an error

6. Click on the link "Click here to redownload all the tracks listed below"

7. You will be prompted to open or save an .amz file if you have the Amazon MP3 Downloader installed. This file activates the Amazon MP3 Downloader and initiates downloading your MP3 song files. Be sure to select "Open" when prompted. You may also want to select the option to always take this action so you do not see the Open dialogue box after each purchase

8. If you do not have the Downloader installed, you will have to download the tracks individually. Please click on each track and choose "Save" when prompted to save the .mp3 file. Please wait until one song has downloaded completely before clicking Download for the next song

And it worked ok, hope this helps...
