Meet Our Authors - "Indie Bites"

As some of you may know, 14 members of the Meet Our Authors Forum collaborated to create a paperback book of short stories, and the result is now available on Amazon:

Indie Bites

It's a diverse collection of stories that shows off the talent lurking within the Indie market and, indeed, this very forum. Hopefully, it will achieve some success and shine a little light onto each of the contributors.

Please show your support of the indie market and buy a copy. It's just £3.77, which is the cost price and none of the contributors are making any sort of profit.

For the reservations and skepticism that some forum members may have had when first hearing about this proposed project, I hope you agree that we accomplished what we set out to achieve and we have delivered what was expected. If a second volume is to be put together, I hope some of the authors that sat this one out will join our small 'Amazon Indie Authors' group and put their talents towards another great book.

It looks really good, Steve. I read the sample and was impressed. It's on my wish list!

It's on my Just Bought list! I look forward to putting this physical book on my shelves. I love my kindle, I love ebooks, but I started off being besotted with print books so I'm glad to be able to have some of these great writers in print in my living room.

My copy is on its way! It's my first writing to be published in print, so it's a bit special for me!

A big thank you to Steve for organising and coordinating the project, Steve's illustrator for a brilliant cover, Kath for proofreading and all the contributors.

Mountainmama, your comment pleases me greatly as the sample was the start of my story!

I look forward to having the book in my hands. Once I have finished the bit of business I am on, I will help to spread the word.

Can't wait to read the rest, Jonny! When will it be on sale in the US?????? Any plans for an e-book?

DarrenHF says:
There really is nothing like having a physical book that you wrote/co-wrote/illustrated/edited whatever, in your hands. That's the one thrill for a writer that the kindle just cannot replicate.

I really like what you have done here. Great piece of work! Hope I can be involved in the next one.

Thank you for what you are doing to support the indie market!

Can I just add my thanks to Steve and Ignite, also, for all they've done to get this book ready? I was supposed to go on holiday today, but disaster struck and I had to return home. Finding my copy of "Indie Bites" on the mat was enough to cheer me up! :-)

Obviously, I am going to say that I enjoyed it, because one of my stories is in the collection. But what was especially nice was that, reading it this afternoon, I exposed myself to some genres that I never normally read. So I would also say to anyone who's thinking "Oh, I might want to be involved if there's a follow-up", then please do so - all genres are catered for!

Mountainmama - thanks very much. The sample your read is from Jonathan Hill's story, so please check out his other books here on Amazon. The intention of the Indie Bites book was to get some attention to the writers involved, and it looks like it's working already. If you like Jonathan's writing, he has a number of books available.

DarrenHF - I agree fully. Despite the success of the Kindle and other ereaders, I still mainly buy physical books.

Schwartz - yep, no problem - if I decide to put another book together (depending on how this one is received) your contribution will be most welcome.

Marcus - cheers mate, and thanks for your involvement!

Jonathan - there's a nice little surprise waiting for you - and everybody else! - when they look at the tumblr page:

Cheers all,

Ethereal says:
For obvious reasons I can't review Indie Bites if I wanted to but having read the book this weekend I'd recommend it to friends - overall awarding it 3* which is better than most I've read (I'm picky about shorts).
I'd give my favourite four stories in it four stars, including a couple which wouldn't be my normal reading preference, so I'll mention them here:

1. The Nail (Johnny Heisenberg) - how I laughed!
2. The Last Fluffer in La La Land (Dan Holloway) - taught me a few juicy things ...
3. After Ever After (Michael Scott) - a modern fairytale?
4. Torn (Sandra Giles) - never thought I'd enjoy this genre

And the cover is brilliant, Steve, proudly displayed in my bookcase.

I'll stick it up on my site soon. I've been busy the last week. At some point in time I'll get around to reading it.

Steve, I haven't said thank you yet (mostly because I'm always confused as to whether or not responding to group emails sends the message to everyone) so I'll say it now. Thank you for your work on this. You're a star, and I'm so glad it has come together so well. I have on copy at the moment and will definitely purchase more soon. I look forward to reading it!

And thanks Ethereal :) I'm glad you liked it!

ETA - I can't believe I forgot to extend the thanks to Ignite! It goes without saying!

is it going on smashwords Steve as previously discussed?
good luck to all by the way with your stories. :)

Nice cover BTW - very clever!

Best of luck

Hi all,

Been messing about this morning and have come up with something very cool.... check the website or the Tumblr page to see it: (remember to hit refresh F5 if you can't see any changes)

Ethereal - I'll tell Johnny you liked his story - he makes out that he doesn't really care but I think he'll be chuffed!

Sandra - no worries, glad you like the finished book!

Steve M - probably, but this book took up so much unexpected work (including the fact that I'm still doing promo stuff on it like the website and Tumblr page) that it'll be a little while before I get around to it. It is nice big print though, so you might get along just fine with the paperback - if it's too difficult to read, have the missus read it aloud in bed to you!

Vanessa - the cover design had nothing to do with me, all credit goes to Lloyd Hollingworth - he came up with the title, the concept and the actual cover.

Michael - curb your enthusiasm! Whenever you get around to it is fine. One thing, and I hesitate to say this without provoking a sheetstorm, but there's one of your reviews you might like to tactfully remove, for the sake of altruism. The votes for your review - 20 out of 20 people think that it is unhelpful - are a good indicator that maybe, this time, you got it wrong. The author hasn't asked me to ask you, this request is purely from me - given the circumstances, it would be a nice thing to do. Your call though.

Cheers all,

I like the profiles (and mug-shots!) It gives a depth to the production.

Morning Kath!

I've just uploaded another profile to Tumblr - Sandra's. She does add a bit of glamour to the whole thing!

Posted on 27 May 2013 15:05:09 BDT
Ignite says:
She does indeed. You won't make many sales on the strength of an old bat like me! Still, I'm only 'support staff' you might say.

Sandra Giles says:
You must be kidding, that's frightening! But it's a good idea. Nicely done :-)

Sandra, I shall politely refrain from making any comment. On here, at least ... :-)

Great artwork re the Talentspotting! Very original. :)

Thanks (I think). I'll go wait for it elsewhere.

Kath - you aren't support staff, you are as much a part of the project as any of the authors! That goes for Simon Schild and Lloyd Hollingworth too (artist and cover designer respectively).

Sandra - ta, glad you like it.

Jonnyboy - that little bit of artwork I can claim credit for. Had the idea first thing and thought I'd give it a shot.

All - if you like what I've been doing and you want to be included in any more such promo bits and bobs, please send better photos through to my email address. Most of the ones I have are too lo res or incomplete to do anything with.

Katrina Rose - You've just committed what we in the trade like to call a 'drive-by spamming' and it's not the best way to introduce yourself to your fellow authors. Start your own thread, by all means, but dumping the same promo post into multiple threads, especially where it's not relevant, is just bad manners.

Sandra Giles says:
I've sought a review, which is more than I've done for any of my own novels, so hopefully we'll get some feedback. Will work on some more promotion soon. Just need to sort a few other things out first. I did try linking it to Goodreads too but it never usually works for me, so someone else might want to try it if it's not up.
