Review: 5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Excellent
It was a very fast moving and excellent story. I thought that the author covered some unpleasant aspects in the story without going into too much detail, which made it a more pleasant read for me personally.

Book Description:

Washington where nothing is what it seems. Not knowing that can cost you your life.

Jack Halpin, once an up and coming senior executive, is on a downward career and personal projectory. His beliefs and all the vestiges of his career and privileged family life are challenged as he is submerged in a dangerous world for which he is ill prepared. A member of the Fairfax Gun Club, Jack is a traditionalist who believes in the right to bear arms, law and order. He has a strained relationship with his wife Poppy, the daughter of respected Senator Jock Kessles, a man who is deeply disappointed in his unsuccessful son-in-law.

Unknown to Jack, the mysterious death of a senator is the signature tune to a traumatic change in his world and everything he has taken for granted. Surviving the onslaught of rapid, life or death challenges and the sinister forces facing him, will require all his resolve. This journey will bring him face to face with murder, political intrigue, depravity and betrayal.

The Screen Conspiracy is an intelligent thriller which uses fiction and an array of unique characters, to tease out a political conspiracy where evil, reality and patriotism overlap seamlessly. Strong characters, unexpected consequences, racy humor and a readable, escalating tempo combine to make this a novel that immerses the reader in the storyline and search for justice.

In the beginning God created heaven and earth, then he created Lake Tahoe. That sales pitch ran through Senator Tom Riley's mind as he sat in his car, parked in the drive of his elegant manor home overlooking the lake. It was the house of his dreams, he had the family of his dreams, he had the life of his dreams. His love for politics and Washington would always be second to his life here in Zephyr Cove. Washington life punctuated his weekends at home rather than the other way round.

The light was dimming over the lake. He watched as his wife, of thirty years, Olivia, moved throughout the house, silhouetted against the warm glow of lamps and the log fire. Choices, he had choices. His palm wiped the sweat from his brow. One choice lay on the passenger seat, his revolver. Beside it lay his cell phone. My god, how could he leave her such a legacy of scandal and loss. But dignity, his dignity, would be intact.

He argued back and forth with himself. There was no third choice. He had to choose. Another figure appeared through the glow of light on the balcony. His beautiful daughter, Emma. She saw him in the car and waved down. He smiled back. He reached to the passenger seat and picked it up. He knew what he had to do.

Happy Birthday to me!

In celebration, I am making my new thriller The Scorpion free on Kindle for two days - May 8 and 9. It is Book 2 in the Daily Express Chronicles series. My gift to new readers.

If you haven't yet read the first one, DEADLINE, it is reduced in price for the two days of the free promotion. While both books can be read as standalones, they are best read in sequence.

Now get both books for a great price for two days only - May 8 and 9. Any reviews will be most appreciated.

Single Minded is free until Sunday 13th May!

Meadow View is just another house to sell for estate agent Hal Symonds, a young man determined to make his way in life at any cost. But he quickly realises there's more to this seemingly empty house than meets the eye. Why does he keep dreaming about Meadow View in the past, seeing it through the eyes of a man who lived sixty years earlier? And why does the sight of his new girlfriend's grandmother, Sylvia, whom he has never met before, excite such resentment in Hal; why do his hands keep itching to close around her throat?

Hal fears that he is losing his mind. And the manipulative games of Erica, his obsessive ex-girlfriend, merely add to his confusion as his carefully constructed world starts to unravel. Hal looks for scapegoats in everyone around him, until forced to realise that he is set on a course of self destruction from which he can see no way out ...

Morning MLJ,
I have just finished Single Minded and have to say I found it very interesting :-) There's mystery, romance, secrets and lies, violence (not too much) foul language (far too much for me) fear and insecurity.....all wrapped up in a good story :-)
I enjoyed the diversions into a past life, and how that made me want to read on....sometimes into the wee small hours :-)
Well written, by which I mean the grammar is good, no spelling mistakes that I could see, and punctuation perfect :-) I think this story could have a sequel, so we can discover what happened to Hal and Caro.....did they marry, did Caro buy the house etc.,
If you want a 'different' storyline, then I'd say read this book :-)

Hi Lilian, thank you so much for those wonderful comments. I'm really pleased that Hal's woes and trials kept you well entertained! I take your point about foul language - I made a concerted effort to use it sparingly, where I felt it was in character, and not gratuitously.

Could I ask one more favour from you, would you consider posting your above comments as a review on the book page? They're such useful views and it would be a shame to lose them in this forum. Either way, thanks again for taking the time to read Single Minded. M

I have now posted a review on the Amazon Books page.....easy once I figured out that you meant the main page and not the Kindle forums :-) I am old, so put it down to another senior moment :-)
I have also posted on the Just finished....Just started thread on the Kindle books discussion page :-) I know several people downloaded the book so maybe you will get a few more reviews/comments :-)
Good luck and please get cracking on a sequel :-)x

The Fanatic FREE on Saturday 19th May.

Britain it seems, has more enemies than friends...

When a radical group of extremists launch a terror campaign on the streets of Britain, a frantic hunt begins to find those responsible. But what seems a simple case of terrorism quickly reveals other, more sinister forces at work. As Nick Torr follows a dangerous trail that stretches from the hostile streets of Cairo to Paris, London, Kenya, Somalia and finally Washington, it becomes clear that this is no straightforward dirty war.

Nick's investigation into brutal murders, double deals and illegal black operations, leads him to a startling discovery of a conspiracy that has its dark roots in the heart of Moscow and personal treachery.

Enjoy reading this fast paced exciting thriller !

Hi Lilian, that's really kind, thank you! I hadn't actually conceived a sequel to Single Minded but it's certainly worth thinking about. My next novel (in progress) is entirely different, but I may well revisit Hal at some point to find out if his life is all he wanted it to be! Mark

You definitely need to give Hal and Caro another airing Mark :-) I for one would love to know what happened to them....happy ever after, did they marry, have children perhaps? What became of the house....did they get a tv makeover or a DIY disaster :-) Did they buy the house and live in it? Did Hal survive his hang-ups or did he remain insecure and bedevilled by those horrific nightmares? And what happened to the ex-girlfriend? Was she really pregnant and if so did she have the baby, and did Patrick acknowledge paternity? Come on Mark, you must see there's plenty of scope for a sequel....and soon please :-)
Hope your new novel is progressing well and look forward to hearing all about it when it's ready :-)x

Ooh no, Hal would never do something as cheesy as a tv house makeover, he takes himself far too seriously to do that. Don't think David Shipley would approve either! We'll have to see ... I love your enthusiasm for more on "Haro" and I'll certainly give it some thought.

Posted on 17 May 2012 12:51:16 BDT
Lilian says:
Hmmm....David Shipley might not approve, but if Hal and Caro did a good job he could maybe use it as an example of what can be done to an old, run down property....even a 'haunted' one :-) Win would probably excel at interior design, while Prue would be disdainful and possibly jealous :-)
Please write a sequel....I can already feel withdrawl symptoms :-)x
