Hi. Can anyone please give me some advice? I want to have a laptop as a retirement gift from my employers and colleagues and can spend about 600 british pounds. I don't do gaming but want a reliable desktop replacement which will be as future proof as possible. Any suggestions will be gratefully received.
Thanks. Mike C

I would purchase an Acer laptop then purchase their 3 year Acer advantage accidental damage warranty cover for around 70 extra. If you spill a drink on it...... it's covered etc.

Acer have quite a nice range of laptops, as you are looking for a desktop replacement I imagine you would be wanting something bigger than the standard 15.4" or 15.6" screens.

The trick is to make sure you buy a laptop that has a 2nd generation Core i3/5/7 processor inside, not the 1st generation, easily spotted as the 2nd generation has 4 numbers in its name, ie : Core i5 2500, Core i3 2100. The older 1st generation are 3 numbers, ie: Core i5 540, Core i3 350. Even though you may not want to play high performance games on your laptop you have mentioned you would like it to be somewhat future-proof so it's worth getting something that isn't too shabby.

I recommend something like : Acer Aspire 7750G 17.3 inch Laptop - Black (Intel Core i5-2450M 2.5GHz, RAM 6GB, HDD 500GB, DVD-Super Multi DL, LAN, WLAN, Webcam, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit)
