I have ripped a DVD to my laptop and transferred across the my Kindle Fire HD but am unable to locate it anywhere through the menu system. If I go to Movies where I have saved it to I just can see Lovefilm. I've tried different folders on internal storage but still no luck. It could be that the DVD is protected and cannot be located but does that mean that I cannot load any shop bought DVD to the Kindle?

Mp4 format works best for use on the Fire, so make sure you're using the right one. If it's the wrong format it probably won't show up at all because the Fire doesn't recognise it.

I *think* that if the DVD has DRM protection, it wouldn't allow you to rip it to begin with.

I recommend installing the ES File Manager from your App store on the Fire, and using that to navigate to the folder you put your movies in. Should work

The kindle will ignore formats it can't read. Ensure you've ripped in the right format first or use something like format factory to convert it. X

Hi,
Your movies won't be visible under Video. You should find them in the app Gallery. If not, it could be the format isn't compatible.

David Tuomey says:
The real problem here is that is a disgrace that you cannot download movies or programs from BBC iplayer on the Kindle fire HD, Amazon are really damaging their brand in the UK by launching a product that is not ready

In reply to an earlier post on 19 Nov 2012 22:39:45 GMT
"a disgrace" - does not quite encapsulate the technical disappointment that many are experiencing?

G. Heywood says:
Yes, what were Amazon thinking. You would think they would have went round to BBC House and *made* them fix their software. Just incredible..

Apple seem to have managed it

Apple had difficulty, nevertheless, using their new i0S6 mapping software, in finding their way to BBC House, perchance?

G. Heywood says:
I don't think Apple could make the BBC do it either.

When iPlayer came out on both Android and iOS, it didn't have download functionality. They added it to iOS and have stated that it is coming for Android. To claim that Amazon are harming their brand due to a the lack of functionality in an Android app developed for the BBC, is ludicrous.

David Tuomey says:
Just read the forums - they speak for themselves; launching a product that is not fit for purpose is brand damaging; BBC iplayer may not be the knock out blow, true but added to other issues such not being able to download movies and ludicrous becomes reality

David, the Fire isn't advertised as having a movie download service but only a streaming one. It may not do what you want it to but that doesn't make it "Unfit for Purpose" any more than my Meriva VXR is "unfit" because it won't achieve 50 mpg.

Anyone buying something that does what it says it will, but not what they'd like it to has bought the wrong product.

Paul says:
If its in one of the following formats (.MP4, .VP8, h.264, 3GP, .WEBM) and you have put it into the Videos / Movies folder it should show when Tap Personal Videos under Apps.

MP4 would be you best bet and its simple to convert, I use a free program called handbrake to do it with my videos for my ipod.

Paul says:
I think your wasting your time there Denis, looks like he's going to post in threads to try mouth off over a product he apparently purchased with little understanding or research on it prior to doing so.

G. Heywood says:
Not fit for purpose?

Web, apps, books, games, e-mail, facebook, movies, and more. That is what the site says, and that is what the Fire will do.

As I said, iPlayer is from BBC. BBC is not Amazon, they are different companies.

Paul, I'm sure you're right.

I tend to reply to such posts to give readers new to the Forum an alternative view. What some state as facts are, in reality, only opinions and I try to convey that what I say is just my opinion or viewpoint but sometimes you just have to point out errors.

the fire is capable of downloading movies, iplayer is a good streaming service that the bbc need to work on ,nothing to do with amazon, if people have the time to read the forums they will find an answer to all their questions, there is an easy way to download new films and tv to the fire ,with a little patience and effort all could be yours.

many many lol , but who wants an easy life;)

What is the purpose and why is it unfit for it other than for your extravagant wild expectation.

If you are so annoyed about the FREE iPlayer app with access to loads of FREE content that licence payers have PAID for you should get yourself over to the BBC website and read the intelligent, reasoned and reasonable approach as to why the fully loaded Android iPlayer is not yet viable. The full Apple version has only been availabe for a few months after lagging considerably behind the previous Android versions.
If you really must I suppose you could cripple your unfit for purpose device by loading a lot of complete trash onto it, like Flash, which converts it into a grotty second rate tablet.

And not being able to download movies onto it. Well I never. But do tell; why are you compaining about something the Fire doesn't do when it doesn't do it?
