I switched on my Kindle this evening and I now have silk showing on my carousel. When I go on the internet it now seems to go through silk. Has there been another kindle update?

This happened to me this afternoon and to my husband this evening. I thought I'd accidentally tapped on something when I saw his hadn't changed. I was!

Same here. Mine changed last night but my husbands still hadn't changed as of this morning!

Mine changed last night and I accused my son of adjusting something without telling me. I owe him an apology now !

It would have been nice if Amazon had let us know it was going to change!

They do a (rather boring) announcement on here every time they update the eReaders. I'm guessing they don't bother to mention it on the Fire because, just like all smart phones and things, there is always a small update going on all the time.
Maybe they will announce if there is some significant change.

Silk looks awful now...No notification to the device to tell us they were messing with it?

This has happened to me too and is a pain because when I go to the web now I just get six or so choices and they are not the ones I had before - I used to have much more and trends etc I could browse. How do I get back the pages I saw before? Why do I need Silk showing on my carousel?

Have you any idea what changes, micro enhances and minor data modifications they have sent to your Fire in the last hour / day / week / month?

Tablets, smart phones and all other Android devices are constantly being fed tiny little trickle feed upgrades and mods. That's why your data allowance disappears on your phone even though you have never data'ed. Get real bunny. They do what they do. As do EVERY other Android softie, hardie or firmie. Go protest Fracking or murder of citizens in democratic emerging countries if you want, but don't protest Android for goodness sake.

Hi everyone,
As I like everything neat and tidy on my fire, I always delete history at the end of the day. I have my bookmarks and that's great. Can someone please tell me how to delete history after this update.
Thanks Caz x

Touch the three bars at top left of web page and you get a dropdown list history is there.

Denis Powell says:
If you tap the three bar menu icon in the top left hand corner of Silk you can view your Most Visited sites, Bookmarked sites, Downloads, History and Trending now, all at a far more useful size than previously.

This has happened to me too (and not my partners). This new version is extremely annoying. I also like a tidy Kindle and hate the Silk symbol going onto my carousel everytime I come offline. I also think it's so longwinded now to get to your bookmarks and history. Please Amazon, put it back to how it was. We should be able to choose if we want these updates. Tapping the three bar menu icon is a faff. Can't see how this is an improvement on how it was before. Everything takes so much longer now.

We will be issuing Care Bears to the most needy.

Thanks Gary and Denis, easy when you know how :-)

I know I'll be castigated as being an "Amazon employee" for saying this but after tapping on the Web icon or Silk in the Carousel (which always had the last web page visited on my Fire) it's just two more taps that take less than a second to accomplish to be viewing my bookmarked websites or history. That's hardly "longwinded" in my opinion. As it gives me larger icons with more readable text than the old version did I'm quite happy with it, but if an extra second is causing you such a problem then you'll probably not like any other tablet either as the Chrome Browser does something very similar (but is slower on a Nexus 7 and an Asus Transformer than the new Silk is on my Fire HD).

When BB do a significant upgrade you can here the terror in Playbook owners voices as we wait for the 3 programmers who give a flying wombat what RiM build to get around to upgrading our two working apps.

Having so little, we do tend to poke fun at the Android community who have so much and spat at "it's not the right shade of blue any more" :(

I love my Kindle and wouldn't dream of changing to another tablet but it's just annoying that once you get used to doing things people change the layout. I'm sure I'll get used to it in time but I preferred it when the history, bookmarks and trending were all on the opening page. Maybe longwinded was the wrong word but it is frustrating having to press the three bar tab to get to your history, press the three bar tab again to go to your bookmarks and etc etc. The worse thing of all though is that it goes on your carousel afterwards. I only like books on my carousel and have to delete an app or game after I have finished playing but seeing as I don't do that often I don't mind deleting them but seeing the Silk on the carousel everytime is annoying. Ha ha. May be I'm just too fussy and like things too tidy!! Love everything else about Amazon and Kindle though. We have three in our household and even got my Mum to buy one.

I suspect that none of us like change, but I quite like learning new ways of doing things and although I miss one or two aspects of the old Silk browser, for me the advantages of the new system outweigh any disadvantages and I got used to it quickly. Many changes can be three steps forward and two steps back and, for some, the new Silk will fall into that category I'm sure.

Ah, the siren song of "mwaaaahhhh! I hate change so I am duped, cheated and being treated shoddily" especially when the change affects someone's particular brand of cosiness. As opposed to changes which don't.
I wonder what the protests were when you had to start putting a £1 coin into trolleys. I wonder how they cope when a TV channel changes number. I wonder how they cope...

Do people who buy the device after the changes feel equally cheated?

No, I didn't ask for the Silk upgrade either and don't want it. It's MY Kindle after all and I had it how I wanted it, not how Amazon says it should be. I've asked them to remove it. At least on a laptop, etc, we can undo an upgrade or restore to a previous date. Silk also has security issues I'm concerned about. Those of you who object to the upgrade I suggest you ask for it to be removed.

In reply to an earlier post on 16 Aug 2013 20:28:38 BDT
Why don't you want it. What "security" issues that are different to those already inherent in Android?
Without reference it's just a mindless rant.
I assume the update also generated a new manual.
Has anyone read it?

CBRetriever says:
no, there aren't manuals for the Kindle Fires

and I don't believe it's possible to remove the Silk unless you want to root your kindle
