Just got my kindle fire HD yesterday and it was working fine but today tried to turn it on and it's screen is frozen, just white with thick blue and black lines on it. It's battery is not fully charged as I don't have a charger and have had to charge it from my desktop computer.Has anyone else had t his problem and if so how did you fix it?

Ian Craig says:
Iain, have you tried resetting it?

Hold the on/off switch until it goes right of and keep it held for 20 seconds or so. Then turn on. Hopefully, it may kick into life.

Mine froze with a wayward app, so I had to reset and then I deleted the app.

Tinker-bella says:
Try rebooting it.

Make sure it's fully charged. Unplug the Fire.
Hold the power button in for a full 30 seconds (count them).
Press the power button again to turn it back on.
The "kindle fire" screen will appear for a couple of minutes while it's coming back on.

I tried that a couple of times but it hasn't worked :( I'm hoping it's because the battery is not fully charged and it'll be OK when it is.I really hope I don't h ave to send it back after just having it for one day!

edit:this was in reply to Ian Craigs post.I'll try doing what Tink-erbell suggested now

Tinker-bella says:
Yes, you should leave it to charge for a minimum of four hours before attempting to reboot, (overnight if even better). My apologies for neglecting to include that little tidbit!

yeah it looks like I'll have to wait till its fully charged .The problem is I'm having to try and charge it from my desktop computer which takes ages.I've ordered a mains charger from Amazon so I hope it arrives on monday! Thanks for your help anyway

Iain Smith says:
Got the mains charger and it still won't charge. I'm going to return it and try to get a refund which I'll put towards getting a tablet which has flash player installed.I can only hope everyone else had better luck with their Kindle than I did!

In reply to an earlier post on 30 Oct 2012 14:09:51 GMT
Tinker-bella says:
Sorry to hear it still will not charge. You may wish to contact Kindle CS directly for real time troubleshooting... they may think of something I have overlooked.

As a side note, if you want a flash player on your tablet, you should look for an older Android tablet with an OS older than 4.0 as it will likely have the old flash player installed.

If you purchase a more current Android OS, as Adobe no longer supports Android-based flash players (they've forsaken it for the newer HTML5 format), you will not have access to a flash player.

You can, however, sideload a secondary broswer like Dolphin HD and an older version of flash player.

Hello everyone. Have had my KF since release day. I must say I'm not too thrilled with it. the reading screen is far too bright and literally makes my eyes water. Internet net screens are frequently overlaid and for some reason showing random rows of Chinese characters. And I have had to charge the battery over night twice. Am very disappointed with my purchase and won't recommend anyone to buy the fire. MY pleasure in my KK remains undiminished

In reply to an earlier post on 30 Oct 2012 15:19:12 GMT
Denis Powell says:
Binkie, are you saying that at it's lowest setting the screen is very bright? If you are then it's certainly faulty.

Time between charges varies according to how you use your fire. My charge is currently at 86%. That will give me 15 hours of music or 10 hours of web browsing or 8 hours of video.

Posted on 30 Oct 2012 17:44:16 GMT
Ian Craig says:
The Fire's brightness can be set very low. It also has an 'automatic brightness' setting which does tend to make it very bright. That would also give a shorter battery life.

If you switch auto brightness off, you'll be left with an adjustment which would kill two (angry) birds with one stone. Better screen for your eyes and a much longer battery life.

It's better than you think!! The grass appears greener with other tablets but the same rules apply. Bright screen on the Nexus = short battery life. (Less memory for the same money too) ;-)

So be careful which tablet you decide on. They 'seem' more attractive at the moment!!
