Radiant Girl
A girl's 11th birthday always brings big changes to her world, but for Katya Dubko, it is truly the end of the world as she knows it. In the northern Ukraine, an area of dense forests, abundant wild life, and sparkling rivers, Katya's little village of Yanov has been a fairytale home. Her family life is rich with ancient traditions and magical beliefs, and her father has a good job working for the government at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station, a complex bigger than her whole village.

Strangers Are Just Friends You Haven't Killed Yet
The naked corpse of a young man is discovered with his throat sliced open on a cool autumn morning in a park in Sheffield, northern England. By an elderly dog-walker, as usual. He is the first of a rapidly increasing number of seemingly random killings in the city, all in that same way. This leads to a frenzy of media and public speculation, where everybody is a suspect, and everybody has an opinion. Daisy is pointing the finger at the media, rookie journalist David is dreaming of future awards for his coverage of the whole thing, and Terry blames the Asians.

Tomorrow's Chip Paper (Strangers Are Just Friends You Haven't Killed Yet #2)
"She's as cool as a fridge full of Fonzies that one..." Will Thunder, one half of television's highest paid comedy duo Thunder & Lightning, is being held hostage in his own home by a masked woman with evidence that Thunder is a paedophile, rapist and murderer. She's streaming his torture live to the world and giving the public the chance to decide his fate, and they love it. Crowds are gathering outside and if she doesn't kill him, they will.

Just another day in The North then...

Of Time Travel and Other Phenomena
Geraldine, twenty years old, idealistic and very serious, secretly hopes to find love while studying in Paris. Alone and dejected on New Year's Eve in her studio flat, she imbibes a powerful cocktail of pastis and some old romantic films on television. When one of the films' fictional characters, Ebenezer Scrooge, appears at her window sill, he invites her on a journey into the past, so that she can meet one of her great heroes, the Marquis of Condorcet.

The Days of the Bitter End
This is a landmark book, masterfully evocative. Engelhard once again proves himself to be a truly great novelist in this beautifully crafted historical novel that recaptures an era that has left an indelible mark on our culture to this day. Read it and laugh, read it and weep, because it's all here, the way it was back then, the age of innocence soon to be shattered, but then reborn. This is what it was like to be young, every moment an adventure. Brilliant.

But what do you do when it's the person who has patiently listened as you shared your most repressed yet unforgotten thoughts and seen you in seemingly irreparable emotional shambles? In other words, your therapist. Well, if you're anything like Michael, you'd probably end up acting a little more neurotic than you already are.

The Premier League's Worst Ever Players
