Amazon UK lists apps for PC, Mac, Android and iPhone/iPad and says that these are available from Amazon.com. When I checked on the US site I see that they also have an app for the BlackBerry.

Has Amazon UK decided to discriminate against we BlackBerry users or is this an oversight?

You can download the app in the uk but it doesn't have full functionality i.e. you can't buy or send samples direct from the Blackberry app. You can however read books already purchased on your BB, download them within the BB app (via archive), so it's very usable.

I downloaded and installed the app from Amazon.com and it certainly picked up the kindle book I bought earlier this morning and allowed me to read it. I can browse the US kindle store but didn't try to buy anything so I'll take your word for it that I can't do that. As I have a wifi connection at home, and the BB is wifi, it might be possible to buy from kindle US, without using the 3G connection and thus avoiding the issue of no US provider.

I downloaded the Kindle Blackberry App to the BB from amazon.com/kindlebb, then I installed the Kindle PC app on my laptop. I purchased a book via the PC App from the UK Kindle store, and when I next opened the BB app, it automatically synced and the new book was there ready to read. Couldn't be (much) easier!

As others have reported, the Kindle app works well on the BB in terms of synchronising books and pages but does not allow a proper interaction with the kindle store. It's NOT a regional issue, it's a platform issue, as all the other apps have been made available in the UK except for the BB one. The BB is not a regional platform, it's global.

I'm in the UK and Kindle for BB seems to work, more or less, on my Curve 8320. I can see the books I've previously purchased, and though downloading them through archives doesn't really work, my Blackberry automatically registered on Amazon, so I just had to go to Amazon site and resend to BB device and eventually they all showed up (after a couple of hours).

Besside that it then says that you can also download it using your phone and putting amazon.com/kindlebb in your browser which I've done. Just need to add my bb to my Kindle account. It also says that Kindle for bb is Beta, which I think means experimental, it also makes me think that Amazon are experimenting with the US first and will then decide whether to release it here in the UK.

There ARE devices and apps to allow blind people to use different phones, and these may well read what is on the screen to you, but that is not the same as the Kindle for XX doing the reading.

You need to get the kindle for pc app, once that is linked to amazon uk it will sense your bb kindle. You will need to register both with amazon and they will give the option of downloading straight to the bb app instead of the pc. If you're in the UK then you will have to buy books through the pc until they activate their bb service here.

No you can't buy books using the Blackberry app. What you CAN do is buy books once you have the PC app as well, and Amazon can push the book direct to your Blackberry App. I have mine set up when I buy Kindle books to do exactly this by choosing on the on the one button purchase option when viewing books.
