I have bought a kindle fire hd for someone and want it to be registered under my account (so purchases are under my email, which is fine), but I want their kindle to be like their own and not sync up with mine. I don't want to see their apps, and don't want them to see mine. Is there a way to have two kindle fires linked to my email but not have essentially two kindle fires with the same content?

Parental controls will help somewhat but probably not to the extent you want. For instance, anything you buy on one will automatically show on the Carousel (but not download) of the other device as soon as Wireless is turned on. So the other person will see a book cover although not have the actual book on the device.

The only thing you can do is have two Amazon accounts in your name, one for your Kindle and the other for the other person's Kindle. You'll get email confirmation of all purchases but neither account or device will have access to the others media.

I have bought a kindle fire for my wife who wants to read my books but also connect to her facebook. The kindle fire is registered in my name but can it be registered in her name and still access my books?

It is registered to a single Amazon account to be able to share books.
You can change the name of any attached device in Manage Your Kindle.

I bought my wife a kindle for Christmas, having had one myself for 3 years.
I tried to add the device to my account but it automatically registered is my 2nd kindle and transferred all my books onto the new device.
I de registered it an tried to set up another account, but again, as we share an e mail address, it
automatically registered as my 2nd kindle again.
Is there any way you can have 2 amazon accounts utilising the same e mail address or will I need a another e mail address?

In reply to an earlier post on 26 Dec 2012 18:41:18 GMT
You can't have two accounts with the same email address, as the email address is the logon name.

When you registered the 2nd kindle, the books wouldn't have transferred, they'd just be listed in the Archive folder, from where they could be downloaded. This is ideal if you will both want to read some of the same books, as your wife can select from the archive of what you've already bought, and download them to read herself at no extra cost.

If however, you definitely don't want to share books, then set up a second account (with a different email address). You won't be able to read the same books as each other without purchasing two copies.

I have 2 kindles, the original plus now a Kindle Fire HD. I carry the HD with me but the other stays by my bed to read my books there. How can I have the new books I have bought on my Kindle HD also on to my first Kindle ? The books I was reading on my first Kindle automatically appeared onto my second Kindle and I was able to read them from either Kindle which automatically updated themselves each time I turned them on

Joy on the kindle at the side of your bed you need to go to either cloud or archive on the kindle. Find the book and download it.

Thank you Suze , will try that now !

Let me know that it works, then I know I won't be telling other people the wrong thing when they ask the same question. Doesn't help that I don't have a Fire.

@Auntie J:
- Your books that you purchase on your Amazon account are shown on each and every Kindle device you own.

- If you bought them and downloaded them to your KINDLE1 then that is where they are. A copy of the title is in the ARCHIVE or CLOUD for every other Kindle device you own now or ever (So in the cloud for KINDLE2 or FIRE).

- If you bought and downloaded books onto your KINDLE2 (Fire) that is where the book is. A copy of the title is in the ARCHIVE or CLOUD for every other Kindle device you own now or ever (So in the cloud for KINDLE1). Go to your ARCHIVE on your KINDLE1 and download the book

This is exactly what you did when you bought your Fire - it is not complex.

Edit@ Suze, you gave good advice. But I typed slowly plus a cup of tea arrived and I got distracted :)

That did the trick - thank you Suze

Suze says:
Combat a lot of people have said when they first registered the Fire the books off the original kindle downloaded automatically, so quite a few people who haven't had multiple kindles before won't realise how to do it.

Suze says:
That's good. Don't forget to do a synch and check if you're reading a book across 2 kindles.

Download from Kindle HD to Kindle Paperwhite
I bought my daughter a Kindle HD and it froze up and does not work now. I since purchased a Paperwhite for her and want to give her the books from her orig account. Her original account was under her name with her email address but I occasionally got her books. How do I get her books from her old account into the new kindle without it getting any of my books?
Also, her account shows up first when I purchase a book. How do I get hers to not show up every time I order a book?
This doesn't sound so difficult - but I want to be clear on what I have to do so I don't mess up either Kindle. I think I have to deactivate the first Kindle (that isnt working) and activate the new Paperwhite in her email address. I am hopeful that all her books will automatically pull up, but if they do not they are in her archive or the cloud and she can download from there. Is that correct?
Do I need to give a different account number to purchase to keep the accounts seperate as well?
Thanks for all the answers!!!

You can't move books from one account to another account, and a Kindle can't be registered to two accounts at the same time. If you want her to have access to the books on her original account, you need to register her Kindle to that account.

If this happens: Also, her account shows up first when I purchase a book.
THEN: both / all Kindles ate registered to the same account. You can have 10 or more Kindles on one account. When you buy books from Amazon using a PC there will be drop down list of Kindles just under the One Click button. Select the Kindle you want to receive the book.

The book will be in your Account. All other Kindles registered to your account will be able to see it. The book will be in their Cloud or Archived Items collection.

IF you don't want to be able to access the books, then you want to open a new account at Amazon BUT you will lose access to all previous books.

By the way... If the Fire HD has stopped working, why not ring Amazon and get it replaced. They all have a years warranty and Amazon will replace it in 2 days if it is faulty.

Thank you ChrisJ. This is very helpful. One more question ... if I leave her account under my email and she gets the books she orders, will the books go into my archive file or the front/new page of mine? I hate getting a copy of her books because it loads up my Kindle and I read more than she does.
Thank you so much!
I would call Amazon ... but so far I have not been able to find a PHONE NO, just email and online stuff.

ChrisJ says:
If she buys and gets the book delivered to her Kindle, then it will only appear in your Archived Items.
Items in the Archive (called the Cloud on newer devices) do not take up any space on your device, although they are listed on your purchased items in Manage Your Kindle at Amazon.co.uk.

If by that you mean that on the Manage Your Kindle page you see an email address for your Kindle Touch and a different email address for your Kindle Fire HD then yes this is perfectly normal, each Kindle device or app has its own unique email address.

Go to the Kindle app and find the book you want in the cloud/archive and download from there. This will only work if both devices are registered to the same Amazon account.

Ok thanks. Do you know if I can temporarily register my wife's device to my Amazon account to read the book?
