Kelp Bed says:
No. Have contacted Audible customer services and after two conflicting email, one saying yes and the other no, the last one confirmed that we can't at the moment but are working frantically to put this right. Maybe email them yourself, as the more that complain the quicker they might sort it out...

Thanks for your prompt reply. I haven't purchased a Kindle Fire HD yet, I was waiting to find out if I can listen to my audible books on it before spending £159 to find out I can't!!

I have actually downloaded and played an audible book, but there is no audiobook option on the menu. If you look at installed app the Audible app is apparently installed, but you can't access it. This is really frustrating. Even searching kindle help it explains how to download and play audible. Come on Amazon/Audible sort this out quickly, this is not acceptable!!

Audible support is all setup, it just seems to be disabled.
You can get your audible books to play but its a bit cumbersome.

Copy your .aax files onto your Fire from your pc using the usb cable, install the free version of "File Manager" from the app store.
Run this, browse to your book, click to open as audio and the Audible app will play it fine - you can even add it to your favourites.

Thanks for that. I'm going to give it a go now.

Edited to add - it works a treat. Wonderful. I'd send you a Kit-Kat if I hadn't already eaten it. ;-)

Too right, it isn't! I only bought the books because I had a Fire on order. I don't want to sit at my pc to listen to them. Looks like I've wasted £159 + the audible subs!

How mant do we need to return as useless before they get their act together? KFs have been on sale in the US for quite a while now

What format are your Audible files in? I've downloaded all mine in aax format. You can download your audio books as many times as you like. They play very well on my HD after following S Jackson's instructions.

I agree Amazon have made a real mess of this.
In the meantime if you already have an android phone with a dropbox account and the the Audible app installed then please follow these instructions. its really easy and should only take 10 minutes and hopefully will solve the problem for you all.
1. Download es file explorer and ultimate backup onto your android phone, both are free.
2. Launch ultimate backup, navigate to the audible app, click the checkbox and choose backup.
3 Launch es explorer and navigate to local/sdcard/app_manager/app_backups/user_apps/audible.
4. Press and hold the audible icon until the operations menu appears, scroll down to dropbox and choose upload.
5. Go to your Kindle Fire Hd and turn on "Allow Installation of Applications from Unknown sources" located in Settings > Device.
6. Open the web browser and download dropbox for android here
7 Once it has downloaded click install, the app will now appear in the Kindles app tray.
8. Open Dropbox app and sign in.
9 Navigate to the audible, apx file you uploaded and click once to download.
10. Once downloaded click install and open the app and sign in.
11. Your audible library can now be accessed and downloaded.and the app will be in the app tray ready to be accessed at anytime
I hope this helps This method can be used on Google maps, TV catchup, You Tube etc.
Let me know how it works for you.

I had an email from Audible Customer Services saying they were working on it.

In the meantime I've copied my Audible archive to the Fire using the USB cable and installed the app "File Manager".

In order to listen to an audible book I run File Manager, open the Audible folder and tap on a title. The Audible book then opens in the Audible App on the Fire. Unfortunately you have to go through File Manager the next time you want to read the book but at least it remembers where you left off. The app has some nice touches and, for instance, with one tap you can be reading the blurb for the audio book together with the product details, such as length and file size, and you can set the sleep timer to turn off after 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes or, at the end of the chapter.

Within File Manager you can "bookmark" the audio book you're listening to so that you don't have to search for it in the Audible folder.

Brilliant, it works....thank you!

Yes - Kindle UK told me that they would consider audible support for the Fire in a future release! Audible support were aware of the problem and its nothing in the hardware or software - Audible is fully supported in the USA. Something to do with digital rights. Pretty rubbish really when you consider every Android phone, pc's macs etc seem to be able to get access but one of Amazons own products cant (at least using the download manager etc)

Mathew, I have a Fire and I can listen to all my Audible books. It takes less time to start one up than on my Asus tablet which has the Audible App.

The only thing I can't do is view them like I can music or books but only as they'd appear on a PC in Windows Explorer but that, for me, is a minor matter.

Following the instructions above I just copied the files from my pc to the audible folder on the fire using the app "file manager".
Run file manager
Select the file/audible book that you want to play
Select audio
select throwaway - I did not set this as default in case it messes things up when the proper audible setup is available. DO NOT select Amazon MP3 as this does not seem to work

Works very well and is an improvement on my wife's original Kindle keyboard.

I have got the same problem ,seriousley thinking about taking it back to the outlet i purchased it from as it is not fit for its advertised purpose, Amazon told me on the phone that they will suspend my account for three months and hopefully by that time they will have the systems in place for me to reinstate my 1 credit per month membership.
