Todays momentary lack of freebies made me realise how taken for granted nabbing these have become, so i thought it would be good to suggest that people take a moment to show their appreciation for a book they have enjoyed, especially one that is given for free.
I know not everybody likes to write reviews, but an alternative is to click the 'LIKE' button on the product page, maybe they have one on Facebook, or even to email the author. If i particularly enjoy a freebie i buy a copy for a friend, at least then the author gets the fun of having sold one.
It may not seem like much but i can assure you it is, it can mean a lot to someone who has put a lot of effort into creating something for others to enjoy.
Apart from possible costs, the time invested alone can be huge and it can be very dispiriting for some to see literally thousands of books grabbed for free with often nothing back in return.

It's just a little thought that can go a long way.

Brian says:
Good idea willie - I was wondering if someone would start a thread about today's freebie crisis?

The 'Like' button is easy to miss. Someone mentioned it on the MOA forum a few months ago, and I had to go to a product page to find it. I'm going to do some 'liking'.

I bet some won't though.

Hippocratia says:
There isn't a 'dislike' button, which is probably just as well.

Hippocratia says:
I've had a look for his books, and Year 50 was only published last June so it might be a while before the next one is out. He does have a page here: http://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/GeoffBluske

Lovely idea for a thread, WW, especially after all the whining from some quarters about prices. I've lost count of the great books I've had as freebies, but it's a fair number!

Ethereal says:
Another way to show appreciation would be when you have a long backlist of freebies on your kindle, prioritise self-published authors and get them read before others so you are in a position to provide the author with quicker feedback.

Hippocratia says:
I've gone through my library and 'liked' all the books that I have read and liked. Therefore anything else has either not been read, or I didn't like it for some reason. It was interesting to see how many 'likes' there were for different books - a few had over 100 and quite a few had less than 10 or even 0.

Done. What a nice suggestion I do usually go in and buy any other books the author has after I have read and liked but, as you say Hippocratia a lot of the books I have now went in and liked had no other likes so hopefully if more people start liking more people will download them.

Hi Willie, good post. I always use and click the "like" option. Thank you for enlightening and bringing this forth on forum.

If I enjoy a book, I usually write a review and "like" the book, especially if I downloaded it for free. Seems only fair to help the author spread the word and also help other readers find good books.

I"ve seen the like button, but until now ignored it because I thought it was linked to Facebook or similar. I'll press it now I know different.

I didn't even realise there was a like button, but will be sure to use it now that I do. If I get a freebie and enjoy it though, I always buy at least one other book by the same author, especially if the free book was the first in a series.

I, like a lot of others, didn't realise there was a like button. I have now went through my kindle 'read' collection and clicked on all the ones I did like (all but two)...thanks Willie.
