News item today, Waterstones has negotiated with Amazon to sell Kindle in their stores. People were apparently texting to say it will be 'the end of Waterstones as we know it' !!! How very silly people can be:-)
I continue to buy paper books and have just started reading one after reading a couple on my Kindle. It makes a change to hold a 'real'book :-)x

I have never understood why Waterstones or any other bookshop wouldn't want to sell all brands of e-reader.

some people are all doom and gloom they should look at it as a step forward. There will always be plenty of people buying 'traditional' books there's room enough for E. books and paper books.i m'self read both formats

L Brasi says:
No retailer would want to stand various competitors product up together in their stores, far less the product owners. eReaders are only a component in a much larger and profitable system which demands lots of resource to be successful. Exclusivity ?

Exactly Rab, that's why W. H. Smith only sold their own version of e-reader (kobo), yet I have noticed some Sony e-readers for sale there recently too, must be on a big commission lol.

Damaskcat says:
Why not? What about places like Currys and Dixons which sell loads of different brands?

BeeJayTee says:
They stopped, I think, around September/October last year.
I asked why in the store and they seemed a bit vague about what they were going to do next.
Then the Boss stated they'd market their own after slamming Amazon.
Ironic.

L Brasi says:
they are not in the book business - fairly obvious? Currys and Dixons will sell anything that uses electrons and that's about it.

Damaskcat says:
Most businesses will sell what will make them money. Bookshops these days have to do more than sell books to keep customers. Selling all brands of e-readers would seem to me a good way to go. Selling a so-called competitor's products would seem to me a good way of doing business but what do I know I just use common sense.
