Many of us daily download lots of freebie books - with mixed results. Some are great and some are dire.

What freebies have you found that were really good ? And what not so good ? (Obviously they may not be free now .... but they have to be books you didn't pay for when you downloaded them).

For me some great finds were :

A Cold Day for Murder (Kate Shugak #1) - I enjoyed this so much i have paid for the rest of the series !

Rain Song A lovely book I would probably not have considered if I had seen it in a bookshop

The Tourist Trail: A Novel I really enjoyed the way this one was written.

Orange Blossoms & Mayhem (Fantascapes) Very funny

And a couple I downloaded and did not enjoy at all :

The Fashion Police (Amber Fox Mystery No 1)

Sail With Me

Just finished the Ambassador's wife by Jake Needham. Loved it, got it when it was free. Will definitely buy anything else he has written. Detective Sam Tay is Singapore . Very reminiscent of Lee Weeks Johnny Mann. Temperament wise reminded me of Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch.

Have got Things to do in Denver when you're Undead. After reading Walrus' post this is my next read.

Ones I enjoyed -Uprising (Vampire Federation) -I've bought quite a few by Scott Mariani since, Wish- not my ususal type of thing but good

Another one I couldn't finish - Fools Rush In (Weddings by Bella, Book 1): Weddings by Bella Series, Book 1

I guess it sometimes depends which genre or style of writing you enjoy, but I've found I'm reading a lot I wouldn't otherwise have tried through freebies. So that's all good!

Here are some I downloaded when free that I was glad I'd read (these are no longer free):

The Halo Effect - Erotic Psychological Thriller (The Butterfield Institute) by MJ Rose
Belt Buckles & Pajamas by Michele LeBlanc
A Departure from the Script by Rochelle Hollander Schwab
The Woman Upstairs: A Novel by Mary W. Walters

This is still free:
Swallow by Tonya Plank

Three Thousand Miles for a Wish : the true story of a young woman's quest to find happiness was a brilliant freebie, I really enjoyed it, not free now but still cheap considering.

I wouldn't have finished the Amber Fox book had I not been mesmerised by its horrendousness. It was one of those where I really wondered what most of the reviewers had been reading (or drinking ?) to make it seem so good to them ....

I have found that most of the freebies pass the time nicely but it is nice when you come upon a gem. I do wish, however, that more of them were properly edited and proof read.

The Sorrow of Sisters (The Undercliff Novels (1)) Enjoyed this so much that have now paid for numbers 2 and 3 in the series and will be purchasing number 4 next week. And the odd thing was that I hovered over the first one thinking "I have so many freebies ... I'm not sure ... oh go on then click" Very glad I did as they are fabulous reads.

I actually bought all The Butterfield Institute books by MJ Rose in paperback for real money a few years ago. I have always regretted that hasn't written more as I don't really like her other stuff much.

Edited to add that on your recommendation I have now downloaded "Swallow"

Hi Anne,

I bought another Butterfield Institute book by MJ Rose on the back of the free one, and enjoyed that too.

Hope you like "Swallow" when you come to read it.

Thought "That Summer in Ischia" was way overrated but very much enjoyed "In the Blood" - I got both of them free too.
