MS says:
Not abridged but paperback include the extra pages for other books by the author etc in the page count but kindle don't.

S. Eveson says:
No, there are another 10 pages. The book is The Chalice of Blood by Peter Tremayne (a Sister Fidelma mystery).

It could also be because more text can fit on the screen of the Kindle, versus paperback. The page numbers are usually an educated estimate only, based on the file size and how many pages it "scanned" as having.

Nurrie says:
Not abridged, just different font size and format means less pages. But then the kindle pages aren't static, they can change depending on the font you prefer to use on your kindle.

I understand the suspicion though. Because the Kindle is so user friendly I often surpsise myself with how quickly I plough through books these days!

Page numbers are derived from a particular printed version of a book. Here is Amazon's official statement:

"Kindle books that include page numbers will list "Page Numbers Source ISBN (the print book identification number)" for the matching print edition under "Product Details" on the detail page at Amazon.com. If the Page Numbers Source ISBN (the print book identification number)" listed under "Product Details" on the product detail page is the same edition as your print book, the Kindle page numbers will match the page numbers in the printed edition."

it's like hardback and paperback versions of the same book can have significantly different page numbers, a friend and i were reading the same book one in hardback one in paperback and there were about 50 pages difference.

I wondered this too and even though about comparing the 2 versions of a book. But... I could be reading instead lol.

Oracle says:
The hardback is 384 pages so the Kindle version is probably replicated from that.

Hi Al,
That is exactly what caused me to ask the question as I have always been a slow reader but am now flying through Kindle versions.
