I had a bright idea that would liven things up - unread books deleting automatically after 12 months...

Awful idea!! I've got so many books to read I'd never read them in a year. I want to keep mine until I've read them!

It's a bit like my wardrobe. If I haven't worn something in the past year it might as well not be there.

Actually, in the year or so leading up to my retirement I purchased a lot of ebooks so that I would have plenty to read without having to consider the cost when my income dropped. As a result I have a lot of unread books but most of them are in the archive. When I bought my Touch I didn't see any point in downloading more than enough to last me a couple of months. At the moment I have a reading list, half of which are books that I purchased some time ago and the rest more recently.

Suze says:
Oooh, no. That is so not a good idea willie. I'm building up a library for when I'm really poor and can't afford to buy books.

Magadan says:
Oooh, Willie, I agree with Suze. I too am building up my library for the future when a) I have no money b) freebies are less available or c) I'm away travelling

Fi esta says:
OOOh I'd like to pick C) however I'd need money and at least a few marbles...

Magadan says:
Yes, that may be a problem Fi, as by the time I'm free to travel, I probably won't have the money to fund it or the marbles to cope with it! Ain't life difficult?

Fi esta says:
Perhaps if instead of a 20p jar, we change the amount to £2 coins...

Magadan says:
That might work Fi - it probably wouldn't stop me downloading the freebies, but at least I'd benefit from it by saving - money that I otherwise would otherwise just fritter away on food & other essential items? Though give me a good book on my Kindle, a glass of water & a couple of apples & I'm fine, so yes it may work!

Only if you want a full coin jar and to be a size 0!

well, it is a bit like when you borough a book from the Consortium e library. You can borough up to 3 books at a times, you choose the number of days (no more than 21) and if you have not read them by that date, they are out of your account and you have to re-borrow them. The worst part is that when the Library send you an email, you have 72 hours to download the book, after that, you have to re-order it and some of them are not available for weeks. I made the mistake once of thinking that 72 hours is 3 days (which I know it is, but I mean if you get the email on monday, you could download until the end of wednesday, but no ) but they litterally means 72 hours from the time they sent you the email. I missed a download by one hour.
