RJH says:
IS Kindle Freetime available in the UK for a kindle fire HD? It says on the blurb that it is 'coming soon'. If so, does anyone know when!?
thanks a lot

Not available yet. It is coming soon. If it doesn't say when on the website, then no one knows when...

I'm interested in this too. Am I right in thinking that it's free?

Denis Powell says:
Kindle Freetime is free. Kindle Freetime Unlimited is a subscription service.

ChrisJ says:
@RJH: No Idea, my kids have grown up and left home (almost!) so I haven't been watching it closely.

@Jeremy: We have no idea if it will be free or not - as it is not yet available. It might be an extra 10 or 50 on the original purchase price; it might be an extra 20 per year; it might be an extra 1.00 every time it is invoked....
BUT the most likely is that it wont make any difference to the price of the Kindle, as it will be available for people to use as they want.

It is my understanding that they are hoping to release this year & with any luck before Christmas. This was after several discussions with staff & I was told "I can't promise anything but if you wanted it for Christmas you shouldn't be disappointed." I have the new gen fire HDX & kindle free time is free with this (check out the blurb on the product sales page.) It will come as a new app as part of a product software update. I don't know if it'll be available/free for previous generation models though.

@Charles: You may wish to remove or amend your post. It does not seem prudent to post publicly on their own site that you are breaking the Terms of Service of your licence agreement with Amazon.
Of course that is totally up to you. CW

Yh maybe your right? I've deleted, however I did actually discover the change of country thing while in the US on holiday, was a total coincidence that has been quite useful to know. Surely that can't be against terms of service? Or would customers be expected to delete any app/book brought outside of the UK if not avail upon return?? I think not

Can anyone tell me or anyone else what exactly Free Time is ? ? ?

Sandy M says:
I was wondering what it was too, so here we go:

"New Kindle FreeTime - Parents can create a profile for each of their children and choose the content they want to give their kids access to. Parents can also set daily limits for use or restrict certain categories like games while leaving unlimited time for reading."

Nothing of any value for me then, as junior has left already.

FreeTime could be of use to anyone who has multiple people registered to their account, children or not.

They have been promising since last year!!! We bought our eldest a Kindle Fire for Christmas 2012 on the hope that they will release it later in the year... A year on, nothing has changed....I have given up hoping it will be available for the original version anway!

What do you mean ? If you ask a question, I'll do my best to help answer. I was trying to say that it has now been released & is available through a software update (to at least that model.)

Kindle Freetime has very recently (last day or so) appeared on our new Kindle Fire HD (2nd generation) and is pretty good.

It comes as an App (rather than as something in the Kindle's Settings menus where I had been looking for it before ... !) and runs in the foreground on the Kindle - you can jump back to the regular Kindle interface easily enough (by entering the parental controls passcode).

One thing I did notice is that it appears to auto-filter out content (apps especially) that is perfectly age appropriate - a maths app and a couple of simple 'cookery' games don't appear when Kindle Freetime is running. Guess this is down to how the apps are rated (or maybe not rated) on their App Store?

Is the FreeTime feature available on the previous generation fire hd 7"? I'm thinking of getting one for Xmas and would like this feature for when my daughter uses it.

Denis Powell says:
No it's not. Whether it will be in the future I don't know but I would hope so. You could ask Customer Services if there isn't a post from someone who has already done so.
