Happy new year to everyone

One off my wish list.
Dark Tides. By Elizabeth L Jones (236 pages)

Dauphin Island, Alabama is an idyllic Gulf Coast paradise, or at least it was before the lights went out. When an unknown Event causes the power, along with the cars and electronics, to stop working, Emily must undertake a bicycle journey with her children from the city of Mobile to reach Andrew, a police chief who is struggling to maintain order on their island haven.

Chaos and trials will plague them both, and as they come together, they continue to face trouble, in the form of suicides, marauders, rioting and political conspiracy. Just when they think they've managed to pull their isolated community through the worst of the Event's aftermath, a hurricane approaches, putting them in the crosshairs of something so destructive, the Island's very survival is at stake.

Copied and repeated from the freebies thread of New Years Eve day where I put it earlier.

How to Photograph the Night Sky like a Pro (How to Photograph Anything like a Pro)

There is a lady who comes on this forum quite often whose husband photographs the night sky for a hobby

Just before Xmas she started a preChristmas - Present suggesting thread. Sorry cannot remember her name.
I suggested hand warmers for him. I do hope she sees this freebie.

Sorry if it annoys anyone seeing it again but I do want the lady to see this before the book goes up in price again.

I just clicked on this and could not believe my eyes when I read the instructions for making a cup of English tea! 'Warm water, add tea, bring to boil...'
It was printed in the US, so maybe that explains it but having lived in Scotland, I'm reasonably sure no-one ever gave me tea made by such a method.

PS. Some of the recipes look good, though. :)

There is a recipe for "Sun Tea"

Just add the tea or teabag to cold water in a black pot and place in the sun for 12 hours or in an oven (70 C or pilot light only) for 6 hours.

Petr, you aren't supposed to promote your own book on this thread, it's against Amazons guidelines. Scroll down to the bottom of the forum and you will see a link to MOA (meet our authors) which is for self promotion. You might want to delete your post before Amazon do,

The Seven Stars

A serial killer stalks the first-century Roman Empire: his victims, followers of the man they call The Christ.

In 21st century Britain, former MI6 agent turned Oxford academic, Flora Kemble is invited to help at an archaeological dig in Pompeii. She stumbles onto a secret that could shake Western civilization to its roots. What follows show she's not the only one with an interest.

The hunter becomes the hunted and very soon Flora is running for her life as a two thousand year-old conspiracy spreads its deadly tentacles into the modern age, unleashing a trail of deceit, violence and death reaching to the very soul of the American nation.

The greatest deception of all time is about to be unmasked...

The Uprights
At first they only hear deep, rumbling roars and grunts, and higher-pitched squeals of fear - and ultimately of submission. Then, in the distance, as the swirling dust settles, they see a pride of lions - with a fresh kill. A downed beast: that's what they have come so far to find. That's what, however much the cost, they must claim for themselves.

They understand nothing about the coming Ice Age, but they do know the rains have failed and the herds have all but disappeared. With so few animals about, hunting is no longer a matter of pitching human cunning against the greater speed of their prey. Now, they have no choice but first drive off powerful rivals, especially lions and Neanderthals - and that is much more dangerous. Many die, but still their families starve. If only there was another way.

In fact, one man believes there is. A brave hunter and warrior, Dhi is also gifted with the early stirrings of the intelligence that will one day take mankind to other worlds. He, more than any other, is able to think - not just the unthinkable, but also things which have never been thought. But can he persuade the rest of the clan his plan will work?
Before he attempts that though, he adds Wuhn to his harem. She is young and beautiful, but also headstrong and spirited - and she changes everything.

Taking place 50,000 years ago, The Uprights relates what happens.
