Why doesn't my Fire HD recognise .mp3 in Audible?

Ive recently tried to transfer an .mp3 of a book that I ripped to my pc. I connected it up with a USB cable and dragged/dropped the .mp3 into the Audible folder on my Kindle. Great, easy I thought, but the files are not showing in Audible. I can locate them in ES Explorer and they play, but I want them to work through Audible. Can anyone help please?

I don't think you will be able to do that because the book didn't come from Audible in the first place.

I've read somewhere that you can do this, but I can't find the link to it now...

Maybe someone will come along who knows whether you can or not.

@Clair M: When you find the link from a reputable source then you have a point. If you find a link to another space monkey such as myself spouting "of course you can do this" then you have exactly that - the rantings of a space monkey.

You HAVE the facility to play your files (through ES). Just because you want to do it another way does not make it possible.
Since "Audible" is a proprietary brand of Amazon for their audio book media sales why would they throw away that branding prestige to allow any shizz mp3 file to go into their nice shiny Audible folder?

There is the same issue with third party books. If they are not .awz format then they don't go in the books folder, they go in the documents folder. They are not Amazon books and therefore they are not worthy of being considered books.
This may be an issue, it certainly appears (in my opinion) approaching petty, and creating confusion in the meantime. CW.

File identification and information will be found in the file metadata. Look at a proper Audible book metadata.
If you don't know what file metadata is, Google is rather wonderful on the subject.

Meanwhile, I have complained to Amazon that I am unable to listen to my music in Audible.

Ignore Combat Wombats ridiculous post Clair. What pure waffle!

The MP3 is not an audible file. Audible files are a different format to normal MP3 and as such won't work through audible.

Oh, sorry. Brief and terse answer is that Audible files are .aa format. .mp3 files are, surprisingly, .mp3 format. Only .aa format files which are proprietary DRM protected Audible files are displayed automatically. Knock yourself out :)

Thank you all for your input. Now I know why they won't play in Audible. I'll just use the mp3 player. A pain but at least it works.
