Can anyone help me? I have had a Kindle for Christmas and I have registered the device as per the instructions. The Amazon store is coming up as the USA option and I need the UK version. Does anyone know how I can change it to the UK? I have tried deregistering and reregistering again, but it is still coming up with the USA.

Do you live in the UK? If not that might be why as it is only people resident in the UK who can use the UK store.

Go onto the "Amazon uk" website, sign in, go to "Kindle store" then to "manage my Kindle" then to "country" which will give you the option of "changing your country", chose UK and Bob's your uncle.

Thank you......I could not see this option on the UK website, but I have found it on the USA website and managed to do it. Thanks for your help.

You are very welcome. And thank you for the correction. It appears that you need to access the "country" page from the Amazon site where your Kindle is registered. that is useful to know.

you have changed the country on Manage Your Kindle and verified that your kindle is registered to amazon.co.uk via the Manage Your Devices page?

Hi, Kindle n00b here - I have a similar but slightly different problem. I got a Kindle Paperwhite for Christmas and my account is linked to Amazon.com. I live in Sweden and would prefer to buy content from the UK Amazon store. Can I tranfer my account even though i'm not a UK resident?

Denis Powell says:
No you can't. Amazon UK only has ebook licenses that can be sold to residents of the UK, Ireland, Gibraltar and the Channel Islands. You can only use the .com site.

Thanks for getting back to me! Huh. So the US licences are universal, the others aren't? Weird and frustrating.

not exactly - the US store is set up to use your country setting as a filter - I'm in France and registered to amazon.com with 6 kindles and I see pretty much the same books there as I see on amazon.fr with my 7th kindle

your prices will also be different that the ones I see there and those that US residents see

Denis Powell says:
Some licenses are truly International in as much as they're sold throughout the world at the same price. Many aren't. Those are sold at different prices in different countries and Amazon has decided that it's more efficient to operate that system from the one site.

If you were able to buy ebooks from the UK site many of them wouldn't be sold at the same price as those in the UK and some will even be by different publishers. That system is easier to manage from one site.

You have successfully changed country but you are still I think on Amazon.com which only uses dollars.

Go back to the "country" page and you should be offered the option to change to a different site, something like

== You are currently linked to shop on Amazon.com Click here to learn more about other Amazon sites you are eligible to shop on based on your country of residence. ==

You should then be offered Amazon.co.uk

I live in Portugal but my bank and debit and credit cards are all in England so surely I should be able to but books from the UK

Damaskcat says:
No - e-books for sale on the UK site are only for sale to UK residents as explained in detail above. Even though you have a UK bank account you are not actually physically living here.

I purchased a gift card for my son in law for Christmas (he is based in the UK). I have a Kindle and am registered with Amazon.com. He can't redeem his gift card and download to his Kindle because I have bought from US and he is registered with UK. How do we solve this?

CBRetriever says:
talk to customer service over at amazon.com and see if they can help you

Posted on 4 Jan 2014 19:46:41 GMT
Little Egret says:
Amazon.com may let you return the card for credit, you can then buy a Amazon.co.uk card.

Otherwise, your son in law can transfer his registration to Amazon.com (Manage your Kindle regional settings) which keeps his UK location but changes to dollars and lets him use the card. He can later transfer back to Amazon.co.uk

Hi, I was wondering if you lose your books if you change the store on your kindle?

In reply to an earlier post on 8 Jan 2014 07:01:49 GMT
CBRetriever says:
not if you migrate your account

Hi, I bought a kindle from China but found it was in Chinese amazon store, even though I have an UK account and using the kindle app on apple devices, I am unable to transfer the books from cloud to kindle because of different store. When open amazon.co.uk on my kindle, it presents all books are not available. How to solve this problem?

In reply to an earlier post on 2 Apr 2014 08:34:14 BDT
Denis Powell says:
That's difficult to answer without knowing where you live. Unless you're a resident of the UK, Ireland, Gibraltar or the Channel Islands you won't be able to use the UK store.
