Yesterday I noticed my Kindle Fire HD (18 months old) was doing an automatic update so I let it be (although haven't noticed it doing one before). When it finally finished, I switched it on, scrolled to an app and it wouldn't open. So I tried another, and another and some just revert back to the scrolling menu, others open then crash.

It has since allowed me to the app store, but again reverts back to the scrolling menu.

I just wondered if anyone knew what the update was for and if anyone else is experiencing the same. Is my only option to restore back to factory default? Holding out a bit for replies before I do that part though! :/

CBRetriever says:
have you tried a full 30 second reboot by holding your power in for 30 seconds, ignoring all messages that come up, and then waiting 15 seconds and turning it back on

also have you checked your date/time

and/or done a sync?

Haven't had the update myself yet, but as I usually look forward to these things I was reading about it. Over on the American site other people are having the same problem and may also need a factory reset. There's precious little information frankly. Sorry to be bearer of bad news.

And given that my HD ha been throwing a wobbly for a few days, it may be it attempted the update and failed. Have now backed local stuff up onto my laptop and have done a factory reset myself.

I guess there's only one thing left for me to do now really! Just trying to rack my brains to think if there's anything on there I'm going to cry about before restoring it back, but I guess all my important stuff is on the Cloud anyway, so maybe it needs a good 'clean'.

Thanks for the input! :)

The cloud is just someone else's computer remember...I took things like photos and drawings off, downloads I may not remember where to get, documents...that sort of thing.

I have a Kindle HD and am unable to read out in the sunshine. I have tried changing the background colour. If there something I am missing!!??

CBRetriever says:
nope - it's exactly the same kindle of screen that cell phones, digital cameras and TVs have and the light from within the kindle cannot compete with the sun - think of it this way: it's like trying to look into someone's house on a bright sunny day (the window acts as a mirror), but at night or during less sunny conditions, you can see right in

No, it's a tablet not an e-ink e-reader. You'll need to find some shade just you would with a computer screen, mobile phone etc.
