I look forward to re-reading this on my Kindle, but I'm a little bit sad that a beautiful anachronism disappears :(

I just gave a copy of this book to my boss last week!
and I love the fact that Dill is based on Harper Lee's childhood friend, Truman Capote.

But my all-time favourite quote about this book has to be by the inimitable Homer Simpson:

"Books are useless! I only ever read one book, To Kill A Mockingbird, and it gave me absolutely no insight on how to kill mockingbirds! Sure it taught me not to judge a man by the color of his skin . . . but what good does that do me?"

one vote up for everyone from me xx

I think what I like, and respect, most of all is that Harper Lee seems to have said to herself "I have one book inside of me, and this was it". The temptation to churn them out, try more, earn more. I had a preconception of the book from the film (with Gregory Peck?) and it was nothing like my poor memory and a powerful read. Hope many people take the chance on it :)

She probably could have churned them out as well and made plenty of money out of it, but decided to stick with the one book that she was happy with. Making a living out of writing isn't easy, staking it all on the one book would have been precarious indeed.

Apparently, there's to be an audio download as well. The audiobook is already on CD; Sissy Spacek does the narrating. There's a masterstroke of audio-casting. I might have to spend an Audible credit on that.

Gregory Peck won an Oscar for his portrayal of Atticus Finch. A great film.
