My kindle will not charge

I have a kindle keyboard. It has suddenly gone flat and when I plug it in the yellow light comes on for about 15 seconds then goes off. I left it on over night anyway. It is still flat as a pancake.

I can't hard reset because it won't charge. It stops charging after 10 - 15 seconds.

Any ideas? Or do kindles just break after 2 or 3 years - in which case, I'll go back to books - they don't break!

Cheers

maybe your charger is faulty - try a laptop charge?

Could also be the lead, if you have another micro USB lead try that if Willie's tip is unsuccessful

There have been a few similar problems popping up on the forum recently. A very helpful post from Combat Wombat suggested a book stuck in indexing could be draining a battery (and in that case it turned out that was the reason), I know that's not what you are experiencing, but the main fix would be the same - as suggested above by willie wit, try charging via a pc sometimes that shocks a kindle into working enough to reboot it (hold the off switch off for a slow count to 20). Check this thread http://www.amazon.co.uk/forum/kindle/ref=cm_cd_rvt_np?_encoding=UTF8&cdForum=Fx3IRFCNF3E5K2W&cdPage=1&cdThread=TxQJAGW2HXFWZS#CustomerDiscussionsNew for more helpful tips.

I don't think it can be the lead as I have used it to charge other items and the yellow light comes on and then goes off after the same time every time - so it's not a loose connection. I'll take a look at the link. Thanks.

The reboot option, pressing the start button for 20 sec., worked for me.

Thank you.

My 3 month old Paperwhite has the same problem. Plugged in (tried 3 different cables) and it just isn't charging. Have done a reset without success. The battery has always been greedy - I can't read a whole book without a recharge and it's supposed to last 4 weeks!

In that case talk to Customer Services. They will replace it if faulty.

Hi Mark
I have the same problem with my kindle but my husband says it's now out of warranty by about 8 months. It appears from what you wrote that your kindle was also out of warranty but Amazon replaced it? I only use it when on holiday hence only just found out as about to go. Would appreciate your advice.
Thanks
Maxine

Like other suggestions here, I discovered that by changing charger, problem solved. These small charge plugs are consumable with limited life

Try any charger that already fits - like the ones for your mobile phone. If not, sure - go into town and buy a cheap micro usb charger - they should be about £3 / local currency. It's worth trying.

Thank you so much for the tip on hard re - booting. It worked for my Kindle immediately and so I then tried it on an old one that I thought had died 18 months ago. It had been through the washing machine in a rucksack I had to wash. To my amazement it has come back to life and is as good as new. And to think i had just decided that i really ought to throw it away. It was actually in the bin ready to go. Thank you.

Hi - sorry didnt get this question. Im sure its all sorted now, but I just pushed amazon and eventually they replaced the kindle. I do almost all my shopping with them, so I guess it makes sense business-wise.

Plug it into a working PC for a couple of hours and then try the restart.
