My Kindle won't let me access any of my books. For each one I try to open it comes up with the message
'The selected item could not be opened. If you purchased this item from Amazon, delete the item and redownload it from Archived Items available in home'

I deleted one book but then couldn't find it in archived items. I tried to send it to my Kindle from my Amazon account but that didn't work either.

I don't seem to be able to find a way to fix it myself. HELP!

Damaskcat says:
Do a restart - either by going to Home>menu>settings>menu and selecting restart or by holding the power button in the on position for 30 seconds and leaving it to restart. This is one of the examples given in the Kindle users' manual under troubleshooting and the manual can be accessed via your computer by going to manage your Kindle and then to the help pages.

I have not used my kindle since I got it a year ago. It was originally set up by my daughter but can't seem to access now. It keeps saying not connected to wifi but was connected originally and a couple of crossword books bought for it.

Make sure it is fully charged. 4 or 5 hours should do. If it is not charging, plug it in to a PC USB port for 2 hours, then charge from the mains for 2 hours.
Restart it (see post above).
Then connect it to your WiFi system. You will need the wireless passcode to do this.

I can't access any of my books on my Kindle Paperwhite. When I connect to my laptop they are shown up in the folders but do not appear on my Kindle - can anyone explain why? I am at my wits end having all sorts of combinations!!

Have you got your home page sorted to show 'all items'?

If they are Amazon books and are listed in your MANAGE YOUR KINDLE page here then you Paperwhite perhaps has been registered to a mythical Amazon account - try deregistering it and registering it again.

If they are not Amazon books then unless they are Amazon format they will not show up on your kindle since they can not be read.

If they are amazon books you have copied and pasted over from your pc to your Kindle then they won't work - you have to download them from your account.

They are not Amazon books but I have loaded them on previously and accessed them, it's just now that they do not show up on my Kindle!

ChrisJ says:
If you have loaded them using USB from a PC, then those files MUST:
Be non-DRM protected.
Be in the right format for the Kindle (e.g. .MOBI is OK; while .epub is not).
Be placed in the right folder on the Kindle - the \Documents folder is best for books.

It may be easier and better to use the SendToKindle add-in, and let the books download from the Cloud into your device.

Denis Powell says:
When you say "they are shown up in the folders", do you mean you transferred Folders to your Paperwhite and not individual books?

Steve Bisson says:
Sorry, I should have made it clear, I was referring to individual books and some folders containing several books. I had them all on previously but found it simpler to just hold half a dozen on my Kindle so removed all others. It was when I tried to reload them that problems occurred - when the Kindle is plugged in to my laptop and I open the device it shows all my uploads but when I unplug the Kindle no books show up - they are just not there!

first off, kindles can't see down into folders - the books have to be at the top of the documents folder

btw, collections are not folders, but rather a list of links

When I'm trying to Archive read books into Folders I'm pressing the key on the right side it goes through the motion, but instead of it being hidden behind the Folder Title it is still on my front page but also "under" the Folder Title.......Help

Damaskcat says:
Yes - that's how it should be. You need to arrange your home page by collections then you only see the collection names and any books not in collections.
