Dowler Murphy does 5000 miles in 50 days, visiting all UK Cathedrals (at that time) and many ruins and places of literary connections. He admits to missing out many important places and says nothing about any industrial heritage. He admits to avoiding police speed traps in a several places and has some interesting views about the variable standards of service in British hostelries."

Mixed reviews.

Titanic by Filson Young. Has good reviews.

Greyfriars Bobby
by Eleanor Atkinson - - - The story of Greyfriars Bobby is both fascinating and well known, of course: it concerns the Skye Terrier that fell in love with his shepherd master to the extent that when the man, Auld Jock in the book John Gray in real life, died not only did the dog attend the funeral; but it spent the rest of its life sleeping on Auld Jock's grave in Greyfriars Church in Edinburgh.

Annie Besant An Autobiography This lady started the first trade union / as a leading figure in the Bryant and May match girl strike. Blavatsky, than she does to her sterling work for the poor and downtrodden.

K. A. Newton says:
Jack Tracy & The Priory of Chaos by Boyd Brent. - - - 222 pages - - - Perhaps for over 13's.
Children all around the world have woken up to a total nightmare. Gangs of brutal teens are hanging out in normally quiet neighbourhoods. As if that wasn't enough, all the adults have been placed under a hex and can't see them. For 12-year-old Jack Tracy and his friends Henry and Samantha, the school run is now all about survival. Already at his wit's end, Jack learns he's been chosen to embark on a perilous mission to break this hex and restore order to the entire planet. This means allowing himself to be kidnapped in the dead of night and taken to the place where evil began ... The Priory of Chaos. The Priory is a fortress school located within dark matter. It's as old as time itself and overseen by the most feared being in the universe: The First Evil. At first, Jack is terrified and refuses to accept his mission. Then Samantha, his friend and champion of animal rights is taken to the Priory's ancient classrooms. She returns a hate-filled bully who relishes animal cruelty. In order to restore Samantha's true nature, and prevent mankind's final descent into wickedness, Jack must embrace his destiny and be the first child to infiltrate The Priory of Chaos ...

The Ugly Duckling (Illustrated) - - - 40 pages
by Hans Christian Anderson - - - there are a few of his stories with prices under one pound £1.

The Winter Freak Show by Daniel Parsons - - - 102 pages - - - grouped as 9-12 years but I feel 9 and 10 may be too young.

Here the magic is real, the freaks are loose, and every shadow hides a deadly secret. We hope you enjoy the show, or at least survive it.
When twelve-year-old Toby Carter escapes the workhouse, he looks forward to a life of freedom in Victorian London. He never imagines the danger that comes with it.
After joining The Winter Freak Show, a travelling community of performing children led by a kindly old man, he quickly discovers that all is not as it seems. A sinister child snatcher stalks the streets at night. The police are baffled. The people are terrified. And only Toby knows the horrible truth.
One reviewer mentions Oliver Twist. I think perhaps parental supervision for children under 13. If you are a parent you could read it first.

FING: A Modern Fairytale (Illustrated) - - - 93 pages - - - for 7 year old/perfect.
Ulrich Von Strudel has got no knees, but this is the least of his problems.
Awful, terrible, despicable things are going to happen to this poor boy.
And just when he thinks things couldn't possibly get any worse.
He discovers there's a monster hiding in his closet.
FING is a heart warming modern fairytale about the benefits of staying positive even
when faced with the vile Mrs Lipstick!

Good morning all, I've read and enjoyed this book.
A Touch of Magic
A dazzling sleight-of-hand artist is recruited by the State Department to pit her skills - and wits - against a master terrorist. He's about to receive a piece of stolen film used to make US passports, film that could open the door to terrorists around the world.
Although Channing Stuart is the fourth generation in a family of acclaimed magicians, she's the first of them not to turn pro. Eye-to-eye with a killer, will she have the nerve and nimbleness to pull off a switch that finally proves her worthy of her bloodline?
Special agent Bill Ellery is irritated to find himself suddenly teamed with this amateur whose passion to succeed is as great as his own, and whose penchant for the unpredictable unsettles him as much as the woman herself.
In an upscale resort where every enticement hides a trap, they play cat and mouse with enemies known and unknown as a time bomb ticks. Hundreds of lives depend on the deftness of one woman's fingers and ... A TOUCH OF MAGIC

Cursed: A Jack Nightingale Short Story

Jack Nightingale - lives in the shadows, fights in the dark.

Ex-cop turned private eye Jack Nightingale is used to dealing with tricky situations. He's faced down the powers of hell a couple of times, too. In this new short story, he's called in to help a policeman who's lying at death's door. The doctors can't work out what's wrong. But the dying man's colleagues swear blind that he was cursed by a gypsy during the Dale Farm clearance. And Nightingale could be his only hope.
