Cant access internet on Kindle fire

Hi can anyone help. My kindle fire is working just fine except the internet. When I open silk the screen is black if I click on the magnifying glass the search bar appears I can type a website etc but when I press go it just goes black!!
Any suggestions please :-(

Have you restarted it? Hold the power button in while slowly counting to 20 seconds.
Are you connected to the WiFi properly?
