Can anyone please tell me why there are so many, many people on the forums complaining about the lack of backlight on the Kindle? I've seen so many people asking when there will be one and why isn't there one that I really feel I need to ask why, when one of the main selling points of the Kindle is the lack of backlight, did you even bother buying one?

MC You have joined the exclusive club of o.p's that haven't added to the discussion, even though the discussion hasn't yet even begun..
Msg to no voters please then read the statement carefully and see if it applies before getting trigger happy.
You now have my permission to press no, go on you know you want to ;-p
Well done!

Tigger's Mum says:
OK I'll take the bait, it has become an 'in joke' with the Kindle community, as you say there is no backlight, nobody wants one, and everybody asks Has it got one?, so a lot of posts end with 'backlight' joke references. It has been done to death really.

I have never found back lighting the Kindle terribly effective. Front lighting where the words are, usually works best.
I find my Kindle gets black lit when the misses informs me that if I don't switch the £$%^ front light off and let her sleep, she will use it to light that parts that don't normally shine! (I think this is referred to as a rear light.)
