Well... I start this discussion in order Amazon team takes into account some features and/or improvements on all Kindle PW devices (1st and 2nd generation), and/or in the website.

1.- Goodreads integration

2.- Possibility to change the size of the letters on PDF documents or change the text's size in order the letters can be read easier

3.- Activate dictionaries (and the possibility to switch between them) in order to look up words on internet articles

4.- Interchange dictionaries when using the flashcards on vocabulary builder

5.- Possibility to preview free kindle books using "look inside" web feature before buying this book from the Kindle or at least, download a sample of these books. It's true one can buy a free kindle book and erase it in case one don't like it with no problem of losing money, but in my case, and possibly in the case of other people, it's easier to download a sample of the book and erase this sample than erase the entire book and then have to go to the computer to erase it of the library.

6.- Possibility to buy kindle books in any Amazon website no matter the country one have the kindle registered (please!!)

That's all for the moment, I invite everyone to unite to these requests and add others you consider useful in order to improve our experience with the Kindle device.

Thanks!!

CBRetriever says:
1. already there in the US
2. if you convert the pdf, this can be done
3. using the Paperwhite to surf the web is tedious at best and often down't work on a lot of webpages and you can switch between dictionaries while reading a book. Also, that "experimental browser" hasn't changed in over 5 years and I doubt it ever will simply because Amazon has switched its focus to the Fires for browsing
4. this is a possibility
5. I believe you can download samples
6. not going to happen until there's one rule/law regulating all digital sales and at least three of the countries involved are notoriously protective of digital rights for publishers and other media moguls: the US, the Uk and France, so until they can all agree (not likely, especially with at least one major UK politician stumping for the UK to leave the EU) to sell items world wide, it won't happen.

@Luis.........Number 6 on your list definitely gets my vote but I understand the digital rights issues here.
I don't use any of the others so cannot comment

"5. I believe you can download samples"

The possibility of downloading samples of free books (fairly) recently disappeared on .co.uk - presumably because the books are free (Samples are still there for paid books). So presumably having made this change recently amazon.co.uk won't be changing back any time soon.

Are they still there for free books on .com and .fr CBR?

Luis, I understand your meaning on the slight extra overhead of having to remove a free book from the library if you decide you really don't want it, but I personally don't see that as being too onerous.

CBRetriever says:
of course not - sorry I missed that bit

why bother having free samples of free books if the book is free anyway (seems kinda silly to me)

DaveyH says:
"why bother having free samples of free books if the book is free anyway (seems kinda silly to me)"

Because as Luis says, with a sample if you decide it's not for you then all you do is delete the sample from the Kindle, downloading a free book and deciding it's not for you means deleting book from Kindle, then deleting from Kindle library using a PC (or other device to access the internet).

CBRetriever says:
you're right, that is a lot of work

my apologies

ps: I just use the Look Inside in most cases

DaveyH says:
I personally don't think it's that much work. I'd probably just download and delete if it wasn't to my liking.

As well as the extra steps, which I agree with others aren't really too arduous, you also get a purchase acknowledgment email for £0.00 when you "buy" a free book. Yes, you can likewise simply delete that, but it would be nice to avoid it all entirely by having the option to simply download the sample. It's not the end of the world if you can't, but I presume Amazon explicitly suppress the sample option for free books, so it should be trivial for them to switch back to having it for everything if enough people request it.

Goodreads is already in US, right, but not in UK nor in Spain; why not enable Goodreads in other countries besides USA?. In my experience, when you try to convert any PDF document to MOBI or AZW, you literally "destroy" the document, it just doesn't work, believe me. Using the Kindle e-reader to surf the web JUST to read articles, is fine (obviously, Kindle device is just for reading), so it would be fair to enable the possibility to look up the meaning and translations of a word, activating the dictionaries. About downloading samples, yes you can, but not samples for free e-books FROM the Kindle (you can download any e-book sample from the PC).

Maybe the 6th request of mine is too hard to achieve for the many reasons people stated here, but... why not considering the other ones?

CBRetriever says:
why don't you ask them and btw, since I am registered to amazon.com even though I live in France, I do get the Goodreads integration as well as access to almost all the same books that I would if I was registered to amazon.fr. So, it is available to customers outside the US

and again I would be totally, absolutely surprised if anything is ever changed in the experimental browser - it might be easy, but it's not something I think Amazon will ever do (it's remained unchanged since I first saw it in May 2010 and people said it was the same in the 2009 models)

even the Kindle Fires do not treat pdfs as books - one has to zoom and move around in them. My PC doesn't even have a font size changer, I have to change the zoom percentage because pdfs are more like images than text (I have to use OCR to change the images to actual text)

If Amazon convert PDF's for you I find they come out perfectly readable actually.

In reply to an earlier post on 22 Apr 2014 08:16:16 BDT
CBRetriever says:
readable, but a lot of the formatting is gone especially on two column pages and pages with imbedded text boxes

Damaskcat says:
I was thinking more of straightforward text documents where the conversion seems to work well. Personally I hate PDF as a format.

BTW Luis, you have actually suggested these directly to Amazon right? They are unlikely to take any notice at all of this thread - and you certainly won't get any feedback, other than from other users.
