Have been happily using my Kindle for a couple of weeks with no problem, this morning I turned it on as usual went to resume reading and everytime I press 'Home' to start it gives me 'My Clippings' page (whichis blank) I have tried every book (23) but hey are all the same - what has happend? What canI do to retrieve them?

This sounds like a symptom that has happened to me and quite a few others on occasion - every book you try to open shows you a blank page, with the caption from the last one you read successfully.

Fear not, all your books are safe and well - it's just a bug in the software stopping you reading them.

You need to do a hard reset to put things right. Slide the power button to the right and hold it there for a s-l-o-w count of 20 (actually, for at least 15 seconds). You'll see the screen flash once or twice, and it will go blank.

Then release the power button, and flick it to the right for a normal switch-on. Make sure you see the green light on the power button flash to confirm the Kindle is now on.

Nothing will happen for a short while, but that's normal. You'll see the screen flashing a bit, then the reboot progress bar will show and things will move. After about 30 seconds the Kindle will have restarted, and your books are back!

If you have problems in this procedure, or you're not sure and would prefer some real-time help, phone Amazon support - they are exceedingly helpful and friendly.

You can also go to settings then menu then restart - the answer to this problem is in the troubleshooting section of the manual

It might be worth mentioning here that it is bad practice to have anything on your kindle that you don't have somewhere else. All your Amazon books are stored at Amazon which is nice but if you have downloaded books from other sites I suggest a copy on your PC/memory stick/cd will save possible unhappiness later. This might be obvious to many.

And then back up your files on your computer as that is as likely to fail as the kindle.

I LOVE YOU SPOORANCHER!!! I had bought 2 new books to read on vacation and had just settled into a seat at Amsterdam airport to begin one of them--i could see the fellow next to me had a much larger Kindle than mine, and thought how i like the litte 'guy' I have...THEN I got a message saying the book i was trying to open belonged to another registered user and that I had to download it from my archive if i wanted to read it, and when i tried that i got the same message AND it deleted the book totally from my Kindle! I just now found your solution and tried it even though the problem described wasn't what was 'ailing' my Kindle--it worked like a charm!!! SO grateful!! Thanks!

Denis Powell says:
Is your IPhone registered to the same Amazon account as your Kindle? Have you checked? Is the book compatible with your Kindle, not all Kindle books are compatible with all devices - check the Product page.

If the answers are all yes, go to Manage Your Kindle, locate the book and send it to your Kindle.
