DaveyH says:
Activate the power switch (either slide across or press in) for a slow count of 20 - leave your Kindle to 'wake itself up'.

Ferret says:
It will often unfreeze if you just leave it alone for a while, but a reset never does any harm (except that you may need to reset the time afterwards).

How do I reset a frozen Kindle?

In reply to an earlier post on 29 May 2012 22:53:47 BDT
Denis Powell says:
J Staff, the exact method depends on which Kindle you have, but a restart involves holding the the power switch to the "On" position for at least 20 seconds. Then leave it to do it's thing and don't press any buttons. Initially the screen will go blank, followed a little later by the progress bar and then the Home screen which will look, at first, as if you've lost all your books. Be patient because it's only gathering data. Eventually, when all your books show you should be back to normal.

Don't confuse a restart with a reset if you have the Touch and look in the Settings Menu. Selecting a Reset there will revert your Kindle to the original factory state and delete your books.

my kindle touch has frozen on the screensaver and I have tried holding the on switch to no avail! What else can I do?

Brilliant - the reset worked the third time over two days! I say if it doesn't work the first time leave for a day like I did - charge fully and try again - leave and try again! I was on the last chapter and it froze! The last time it happened I was on hols and had to scrounge a book - mine does it when I leave it too long before re-charge.

Mine is frozen on the cover page with the message " slide and release the power switch to wake"
Nothing happens at all and it will not even re charge. The light does not come on either. Have tried all of the above and NOTHING"
I too am on holiday and was halfway through a great book! Any ideas anyone?
Thanks. Paul.

My Kindle Fire was working perfectly until yesterday. Suddenly it needed to be disconnected from wifi before starting a new task on the internet. Today it won't boot. It just cycles through the boot sequence. It can be unlocked but won't do anything after that. Eventually, whatever you do (or even if you do nothing) it just stops and restarts again. I can't even do a factory reset and connecting to the pc through usb makes no difference. The battery is fully charged.

My kindle froze on holiday but on advice held the button for 20 sec's and this did the trick, but now that I am home and bought a book to download it will not download. Any suggestions?

I am trying to restart mine but it just gets halfway along the loading bit (bar up the tree) and loops back to start again?

In reply to an earlier post on 2 Jan 2014 22:16:02 GMT
I tried holding the switch down for 20 secs several times to no avail, then I plugged the unit into a phone charger, and when the charge light lit up, I was able to power it back up via the on off switch. A random solution, but it worked.
