Erland Ross says:
well, i got a 7" android, mainly for music and reading, and everything seemed to be going just grand. got the kindle app all set up and so on, bought a couple of kindle books, and then tried to read them, but for some annoying reason it doesnt show anything. itl tell me what page im on, but no text, no front cover, nothing. i can actually highlight the invisible text, but theres no way to sort it, and changing the background colour doesnt seem to make a difference either. any advice?

What version of Android and what version of the Kindle app?

The first thing I would do, would be to reset the device. After that, remove and reinstall the Kindle app.

HI have the same problem. I have removed and reinstalled the app and the books. No difference. I have reset the device but it appears to be a software problem. The version prior to the new update worked perfectly. Need an update to solve this.

I hope its not the nexus 7 as I'm waiting for mine to arrive tomorrow.

Mine is a Versus. If you should get the problem then it will tell us that it is the app software not the tablet.

its the versus 7, so its running android 4.0(ice cream sandwich). ive already tried removing the app, reinstalling it, re-downloading the books, but its the same for all of them, and its the latest version of the kindle app. its pretty infuriating as its pretty much the main reason i bought it in the first place, being a student i dont have space for the hundreds of books i own down in my flat, so i had to leave them back home and this was the solution. hopefully they will release a new update soon which will solve it

Hi Erland Ross,
I've got the versus 9 and I'm having exactly the same problem with the kindle app as yourself. The kindle app tells me the books are there but when I try to read a book everything is just blank!

Erland Ross says:
totally bizarre, and its obviously not coincidental that 3 of us here have the same problem. and its not like the versus doesnt support the kindle app, it comes with it. i even tried changing the background colour and font size, the most annoying thing is i can highlight the text, and even then it doesnt show it. im guessing its a glitch in the most recent version of the app, il try emailing the amazon helpy people and see if they can shed some light on it, or even better, fix it!

Looks like software then. Perhaps we should all report the problem. I have done so

Hi again
It's just a thought but would the aldiko app be of any use to you? My tablet came with it installed so I'm guessing you would have it on yours.I've started using it and it works fine, unlike the kindle app :) I have to admit that the kindle app not working isn't too much of a problem for me personally as I've got my lovely little K4 which works a treat

Yep, same problem here with a brand new Versus Touchtab 7 running Ice Cream Sandwich. Nice tablet and everything else works including Google Play Books. Just the Kindle App causing problem with no text displayed.

Exactly the same problem as Erland and others on my Versus Touchpad 7 with Kindle pre-installed. Long investigation and tried everything with Amazon help on the phone, still no text, just bars with title and page number. Waiting for a call back on Thursday 10th after Amazon helper finally referred the case to their engineers. Will try to be in touch if we succeed!

Add me to the list of people with the blank screen problem on the Versus Touchpad 7. Least I now know its not something I was doing wrong!?

I know this doesn't solve the problem with the kindle app but as I mentioned in a previous post, the Aldiko app works ok on the versus touchpad.I don't know if the choice of books is as good as on the kindle as I've only downloaded a couple but I've had no problems reading them. Also,I noticed on another thread that Denis Powell said that he has this app and where he lives in Wales,he is able to download books from his local library.

Me too. Blank screen. No words other than chapter headings. Really frustrating. Mainly as I don't know how to even begin to fix

Well folks, here's the only relevant bit from an e-mail from Barry S at Amazon. (He says he'd tried to call, but couldn't get through, but that's irrelevant when we read the following):
"I am contacting you to follow up on our call on Monday, 10 December when we spoke about an issue that you were having reading books using the Kindle Reading App on your Versus Touchpad 7.

Our engineers have contacted me regarding this issue, and unfortunately the Versus Touchpad 7 is not officially supported by the Kindle Reading App.

I understand that the Kindle App came pre-installed on your tablet, but it seems that it was installed by the tablet manufacturer without official authorization from Amazon.

Unfortunately we can not guarantee the functionality of the Kindle Reading App on the device and there are no further troubleshooting steps we can take.

If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us."
It seems we have been sold a "pig in a poke" as far as this App is concerned, especially as with several (many?) of us Kindle was one of the most attractive features in the spec as advertised.
I'm figuring out what to do next. Such a shame as all else on this Versus 7 Touchpad is fine. The website versusuk.com recommends one contact to do a "Firmware Upgrade" - the Guide tells us that this wipes out any Apps already installed on our tablets! Not going there!
Has anyone got text showing yet?
Sorry to be the bringer of very bad info.

J. Granter says:
I have e-mailed Versus Support as follows:

Support_Issue: The Kindle App pre-installed on the Versus 7 Touchpad in the UK does not work. This product is the subject of a forum on Amazon which shows that no-one is able to access text on the Kindle App, having bought books from Amazon. I have followed all advice on the 'phone from Amazon support without success - updated, de-registered, registered, the lot. Finally I received the following message from Amazon today: "I am contacting you to follow up on our call on Monday, 10 December when we spoke about an issue that you were having reading books using the Kindle Reading App on your Versus Touchpad 7. If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us." It seems this Touchpad is being sold, in the UK at least, with a false specification. What is your advice to me and many other customers who have bought what is otherwise a good product? From whom do we seek recompense? Regards, Jim Granter

Unless you specifically stated you were buying the device to use the Kindle App then it is caveat emptor (buyer beware). You still have a tablet.

J. Granter says:
Surely that can't be right? If I buy a Swiss Army knife online without actually stating that I look forward to using the wire stripper quite often and when it arrives that component is either missing or is unusable, then I don't have the knife I ordered and am entitled to return it to the supplier for a complete working knife as advertised or alternatively my money back, keeping an (albeit incomplete) knife (i.e. tablet). It's no good the supplier saying that that's how they come from the manufacturer, is it.
