no.
Do a search for "transfer" to see more details.

You can register your new Kindle (or any of the Kindle or XXX apps) to your existing account and click on cloud and download the books you want from your account to the new device.

Patricia you don't transfer books from one device to another, they are in your Amazon 'cloud', I.e check your Manage your Kindle library page. When you register a new device or Kindle app to the same account all the books are available to be downloaded to the new device via the cloud tab on the new device.

A download of an ebook bought or obtained from Amazon which is on your Manage my Kindle page is FREE when you download it to another Kindle device which is registered to the same Amazon account.

In the case of Kindle Fires as soon as it is registered to your account the titles of all your ebooks in your cloud will arrive on the Kindle Fire in a cloud list. Tap on one and it will download to show in a Device List which means you can read it. If you look back in the cloud list you'll find a little white tick on the book showing it is in full on the device.

Remember to keep your old Kindle e-reader for reading on bright sunny days. I am afraid the wonderful Kindle Fire (I have three) is not very good in bright sunlight or with a light shining directly on the screen. Just like an outdoor ATM in the wall outside a supermarket or bank if the sun shines directly on it you can't read anything or it is very hard to read it.

I have a new kindle and want to give my old one to my grandson. How do I remove my books? I have downloaded them to my new kindle but they are still on old device.

Do a factory reset, this wipes the kindle clean and sets it back to the same condition as when you bought it.
