Hi, I'm new to this forum so apologies if this question has already been answered elsewhere. I have the first generation kindle and I'm thinking about upgrading to the paperwhite. However one of my bugbears with the original was that although you could put all the books by the same author within a collection it was not possible to arrange the books within the collection in the right order. So although I have a collection for Jonathan Kellerman within that collection I cannot put all of the Alex Delaware books in reading order. Does anyone know if it is possible to do this with the paperwhite or is it still a free for all (so to speak) within each collection? Thanks for any help with this

Hi lexiej. There is a thread dedicated to the new Paperwhite. There are some very knowledgeable posters on there who would willingly answer your question for you. I have put the link below to take you straight to the thread. Good luck.

Hi Lexiej, no its still not possible to categorise within collections. The only way to do this is with DRM free ebooks (i.e not bought from Amazon) you can edit the metadata in Calibre, i.e I add the book number into the title. Then side load your books or email them to Amazon, but for Amazon bought books you are reliant on whatever information the publisher has seen fit to add to the title.

As Lesley says, it's still not possible but I create a simple WordPad document with the reading order, send it to my Kindle and add it to the Collection. I find that much quicker and easier than editing in Calibre.

If you buy ebooks from other sources and install "Send to Kindle for PC" you can edit the book title and Author name before sending the book to your Kindle. That has the advantage that you don't need Calibre at all nor do you need to connect your Kindle to your Computer.

I do the same thing as Denis for hubby, in fact its sometimes easier to just copy the wikipedia page onto a word doc as that has the reading info and other relevant info.

Thanks everyone for your responses, much appreciated. It looks like I'll be keeping my old one for a while longer then because publishers are a bit hit and miss with the titles of books (although I will have a go at using with Calibre and WordPad). I have fed back to Amazon about this in the past so fingers crossed they will think about this for future versions. Thanks again.
