S. Glover says:
Hi, can someone tell me if it is possible to access FB and Twitter with any kindle or will I need the 3G ones for that?

Pru says:

Oracle says:
S. Glover, you can access Facebook, Twitter and other websites from all Kindles, but in different circumstances:

Kindle Wifi/Touch Wifi - internet access only through a wifi connection.

Touch 3G - access through a wifi connection or through free 3G for Amazon and Wikipedia only.

Keyboard 3G - access to all websites through wifi or free 3G.

ChrisJ says:
POSSIBLE - yes.
Will you like the experience of doing it? Maybe not.
The Touch is better, but the Kindle has a slow processor designed for the simple task of reading books. Anything else is not quick... And if you try to hurry it along, it will freeze on you and require a restart.

I only ever tried the internet once on my kindle and it was a case of thanks, but no thanks. I'll stick with other things for the net and just use the kindle what it is meant for. I have to admit though, I don't use my phone for the net either. Far too small a screen for me.

i dont bother with fb or twitter on mine. i quite like having to use my kindle for its purpose - reading a book. i know you can use the internet and go on social network sites. I just prefer not to. :-)

I just thought I'd give it a try. I don't even bother with music on it either. To me it really is just a book.

I tried to get into FB using mine whilst I was in London and it locked me out! When I logged onto FB on my pc, I had a message to say that someone had been trying to use my account. I found it reassuring! ;-)

I used it on holiday recently for facebook, which was handy and more convenient than going to the hotel's internet cafe, and free of course! I also got onto bbc website for sports news for my husband. It is slow but do-able. If you have internet on your phone it's probably not worth it as that would be quicker but I'd certainly use it again in the same circumstances, unless I go for a posher phone in the meantime!

Am I the only one that dosen't much like facebook? I registered because someone wanted to keep in touch that way but really I don't like it at all. Maybe I haven't used it enough. I can understand for families living abroad it must be helpful to keep in touch. Some people I don't even know want to be "friends" then there is a whole raft of photo's etc. I think it is just me!

Suze says:
No, I don't use it or any other networking site. I tried FB for a while and played some games on there but got bored and didn't like some of the bullying tactics I could see. I've deactivated my account and it will be staying that way.
This forum, and the new craft one opened by Daisi, Maria and Kaska are the only 2 'contact' places I use on the net.

Maria says:
I know a few people who were on f/b and left precisely because of the no. of people who wanted to be friends & weren't even known to the people, or were former acquaintances that they didn't want to deal with again. So you are definitely not alone!

Don't get twitter either, seems a bit odd to hang on the word of celebrity, I know that's not all it does but you get my drift...Not really interested in what Katie Price, Fry etc are doing!

Suze says:
I've never used Twitter, I didn't fancy it to start with. I certainly don't feel like I'm missing out or my life isn't enriched because of this lack of use. Actually, my life is better without them as I have more time to read my books.

Think "Linkdin" is going the same way as FB, it used to be for business but seems to be a "friends" meeting place now. My husband would only use it for people he'd used in business but it's gone downhill now so he dosen't care for it. People get upset if you don't "link" but I think if you don't know them professionally what's the point?

I came off facebook over a year ago and I can honestly say that I haven't missed it at all, and I certainly haven't missed the backbiting and the comment from people who try to cause trouble just because they can. Personally I think it is a danger to society and causes a lot more problems than it solves. Give me my kindle and I'm more than happy. :-)

I'm having the same problem with people nagging me to go back to it, but they'll get bored before I do. Personally, I think FB wants closing down.

At one time, if you weren't 'on' FB you were looked down on for some unfathomable reason. Now, most people who do confess to being 'on' it, admit it shamefacedly. I really think its had its day. Twitter will implode on itself too, soon enough.

I'm the same Few, here's my limit. I don't like the intrusive nature of FB, I know of one person at work who has an account purely to snoop into other peoples accounts, that sort of thing makes me nervous. Its like a control thing, she only ever relates negative things back as well with a certain amount of glee, FB and twitter seems to attract spite.

My OH went on FB years ago and was contacted by several old school chums. After a few exchanges he rembered why he dident keep in touch in the first place.

The only people I would want to keep in touch with are unlikely to use FB! The whole thing seems to be so egotistical and self obsessed. Its the nearest some can get to a 'look at me' pseudo celebrity life style.
