Deregistering old Kindle

I have a Kindle Keyboard that "died" on me, it just won't charge whatever I do, so I got a Fire to replace it. I was thinking of passing the Keyboard on to someone who has a go at getting things working and then passing them to deserving cases but would prefer to de-register it first. I can do it by going into my account on the Fire and clicking the appropriate button but would that actually do it and would the books on the Keyboard be deleted without affecting the Fire?

Longer answer: if you mean using your fire to access your amazon account and then using the your account / manage your devices / deregister your device then yes.

This affects your DEVICE and not your account, so it will deregister your keyboard kindle and do nothing whatsoever to your account or other devices.

Deregistering an eink Kindle from the Manage Your Kindle link on the website will not delete the books from the Kindle. It will prevent the Kindle from being able to access and buy more books from your account.
Deregistering one device will not affect the other. And it won't affect the books in your account.

I deregistered my Kidle Fire and want to know if that will delete all my information and downloads I did, for example my email and other accounts I had set up. I am donating and want to make sure none of my information is still on it.

Thanks for the info on de-registering the non working kindle and that bit I can do but like Lady Di I would like to know if the books and suchlike that is on it will be removed from the actual kindle in the event of anyone getting it to turn on again. If I could turn it on I would simply link it to my computer and delete things that way but it's not an option.

Hi there, why not trying re-registering in another name as if you were a new owner and then see what shows up. I want to point out though that's just a guess from me. You always de-register again afterwards.

No. Reset to factory defaults gets rid of everything

Thanks and that's a good thought but I can't turn it on so don't think it's relevant here. Lady Di, this might be of use to you.
