Free again - L.A. Secret Police. Inside the LAPD Elite Spy Network
L.A. Secret Police. Inside the LAPD Elite Spy Network is a New York Times and Los Angeles Times Bestseller. This incredible non-fiction book rips the lid off the LAPD and exposes the reader to its dark underbelly of corruption during the reign of Chief Daryl Gates. L.A. cops ruined lives and reputations, inflicted mindless brutality, committed murder and engaged in massive cover-ups. In Los Angeles, police corruption was much more than unmarked envelopes stuffed with cash. It was a total corruption of power. For decades LAPD engaged in massive illegal spying and lied about it. Its spying targets included politicians, movie stars, professional athletes, news reporters and anyone wielding power or those of interest to Daryl Gates. Incredibly, the spying targets included a Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, a Secretary of Defense, a current Governor and the President of the United States. It all happened in Los Angeles.

A bit late, but - Commonwealth Games: A Guide to the Friendly Games

Jane Eyre Gets Real
Jane Eyre wakes up to find herself in contemporary NYC, as part of a reality TV show. Other contestants include Heidi, Sherlock Holmes, David Copperfield, Dorian Gray, Alice in Wonderland, Hester Prynne, Emma Bovary and Mr. Darcy. To return "home", she must convince enough people to read her novel. But, with a brand new career and a romance with Jack, the show's intriguing production assistant, she might decide to just stay in modern times.

Strangeways to Oldham (The Belchester Chronicles Book 1)
From the author of the Falconer Files, a series featuring a pair of amateur sleuths and a delightful outpouring of English upper-class eccentricities - with the odd murder thrown in. Lady Amanda Golightly of Belchester Towers is a person in complete contrast to the stereotypical image of one of her breeding. She is short, portly, and embarrassingly forthright. If she wasn't calling a spade a shovel, it was only because she was calling it 'trumps'! On a visit to a local nursing home where an old business partner of her father's is residing, she unexpectedly discovers a long-lost friend, Hugo Cholmondley-Crichton-Crump - and stumbles upon murder as well.

Three years before the start of WWII, Eugene Fodor published his first guidebook, 1936--On the Continent-The Entertaining Travel Annual. Fodor's goal was to create a fun-to-read, annually updated guidebook about Europe that emphasized the people and culture of a country--a radical change from the traditional guidebook approach. Seventy-five years later, On the Continent gives readers a nostalgic glimpse and sentimental grand tour of pre-WWII Europe.Today, Fodor's is one of the world's largest and most trusted brands in travel, covering more than 600 destinations worldwide in guidebooks.

A Cold Day for Murder (Kate Shugak Book 1)
Somewhere in the hinterlands of Alaska, among the millions of sprawling acres that comprise "The Park," a young National Park Ranger has gone missing. When the detective sent after him also vanishes, the Anchorage DA's department must turn to their reluctant former investigator, Kate Shugak. Shugak knows The Park because she's of The Park, an Aleut who left her home village of Niniltna to pursue education, a career, and the righting of wrongs. Kate's search for the missing men will take her from self-imposed exile back to a life she'd left behind, and face-to-face with people and problems she'd hoped never to confront again. The first novel in the popular Kate Shugak Series, A Cold Day for Murder established Dana Stabenow as a new voice in Alaskan mystery writing, and earned her an Edgar Award.

Never Buried: Volume 1 (Leigh Koslow Mystery Series)
Advertising copywriter Leigh Koslow doesn't pack heat--just a few extra pounds. And she doesn't go looking for trouble. When she moved into her cousin Cara's refurbished Victorian house, she wasn't planning on discovering a corpse--certainly not one that had been embalmed ten years before. But as anyone in the small Pittsburgh borough of Avalon could tell her, her cousin's house has a history attached. A history dating back to two mysterious deaths in the summer of 1949. Someone wants Leigh and Cara out of the house--someone who has something to hide. But that someone doesn't know Leigh's impetuous cousin, and when Cara digs her heels in, Leigh looks to her old college chum, local policewoman Maura Polanski, for help. But the answers the trio find only point to more questions. Were the scandalous deaths of fifty years ago really an accident and a suicide? Or were they murder?

Trouble in Mudbug (Ghost-in-Law Mystery/Romance Series Book 1)
Scientist Maryse Robicheaux thought that a lot of her problems had gone away with her mother-in-law's death. The woman was rude, pushy, manipulative and used her considerable wealth to run herd over the entire town of Mudbug, Louisiana. Unfortunately, death doesn't slow down Helena one bit.DEA Agent Luc LeJeune is wondering what his undercover assignment investigating the sexy scientist has gotten him into - especially as it seems someone wants her dead. Keeping his secrets while protecting Maryse proves to be easier than fighting his attraction for the brainy beauty.

Looking at

Cedar Sanderson noted

"Oh, and one of the main points in my book I'm working on, that an entire planet could be cut off and left to die out of fear? I'm drawing that from reality, too. People will advocate genocide when they are afraid, I had someone suggest that in a recent conversation about the Ebola epidemic, too."

"I've books for you, now I have been all gloomy. Stargazer , a science fiction short story, is free until Monday. Pick up a copy, and pass the word... If you're in the mood for something more fantastical and full of myth, I'll suggest {my} new book, The God's Wolfling (Children of Myth Book 2) {not free} You'll get to be a vector in my book infection! "

A short story of a woman who looks to the stars as she tries to protect her children and offer them a future. In a world with no escape for those who cannot undergo a genescan, a fugitive mother has vanishingly few options left to her. Ultimately, only her sacrifice can change the world... but what becomes of the children?
