I already have the Kindle 3G and love it, was hoping that the Kindle Fire would be out in time for Christmas to fill my tablet need. But Amazon has only announced the new non-touch for the UK, I'm not holding out much hope for seeing Kindle Fire in time. Looks like I'm getting a Ipad for christmas.

Denis Powell says:
Mr Warren, Amazon may not have enough units to supply the whole world on day one and may not have wanted to delay the launch until they did, and it's not uncommon for companies to test the market by supplying particular goods in one area first.

As yet, we don't have the full Cloud infrastructure in the UK to take maximum advantage of the Fire so that may also be a reason for it's non-availability here for the time being.

According to the Guardian's coverage, the Fire won't be coming to the UK any time soon, because it relies on "Amazon Cloud", which currently only exists in the US.

Lucy Lou says:
No, the Kindle Fire is released November 15 in the US. There is no mention of a release date in the UK, yet. That's a big difference, Lou, to saying it is US only, which it isn't.

Posted on 28 Sep 2011 17:07:25 BDT
Well in the announcement they said it won't be available outside the US for the foreseeable future. so it sounds like US only.

Leroy M says:
I agree but if its anything like the first 2 Kindle's, the UK will be waiting years before we see them. I would of hoped that Amazon would of confirmed that they will be bring them to the UK and not glossing over them and just releasing one Kindle with no mention the others, Apple seems to manage it. Yes there are normally shortages but they normally confirm when they will be released for the UK.

D. Jefford says:
That's not necessairily a blocker though, the whole concept behind the Cloud is that you don't always need a regional data-center to provide the capability (unless there is sensitive data of course)

Damaskcat says:
Amazon are well known for not saying well in advance what they're doing.

It would be nice if they acknowledged the existence of the other types in their notice about the newly available Kindle. It's taken reading this thread to find out that they announced the Fire to be USA only. I'd have liked Amazon to tell me that. I'd have pre-ordered a Fire today if it were available.

Now I have to decide if it's better to wait and see if it's going to be released at any point soon, or buy one of these (even if I'd prefer a touch).

The 3G/ whispernet excuse doesn't stand. Tablets which are wi-fi only exist. They could ship the technology with the disclaimer that whisper doesn't work in the UK and a wi-fi connection is needed.

Damaskcat says:
It is clear from the US site as it says that it only ships within the US.

Andy says:
They better not bump the price up for the uk if they keep the pricing fair $199.00 USD = £127.228 GBP then I can see me getting one.

If they bump the price like they done with the kindle It will end up being £300 and in that case ill give it a miss.

@J. A. Allen
They can't really sell in in the UK. There is no appstore to acquire apps (and you cannot use Google's marketplace). There is no cloud to store stuff. There is no streaming to watch or listen to stuff. All they do have is the ebook stuff, which is very good but mostly better on an e-ink device.

Until Amazon decide to switch their infrastructure stuff on in the UK, the device is fairly pointless.

@Andy
VAT not included in your price.

"If they bump the price like they done(sic) with the kindle", only they've not bumped the price.

A lot of things on Amazon.com don't ship internationally. That doesn't mean that they're not available in other countries. It just means that you can't purchase from amazon.com. As we've all agreed is self-evident (thanks Colin, would never have spotted that......... ).

The question that's being asked is WHY it isn't available in the UK. And why Amazon.co.uk are not acknowledging its existence.

Edit: Just saw DC's post. Very informative. Thanks.

It does look nice but without e-ink I think it would be an alongside my Kindle not a replacement..that said I had considered a cheaper tablet to do just that so maybe not a bad thing? Price will be the decider though.

Andy says:

Colin says:

Amazon UK has exclusively told Pocket-lint that it will not be selling the new Amazon Kindle Fire tablet, nor the touchscreen-enabled Kindle Touch ebook readers in the UK at present.

Amazon hasn't given us a reason for why the more advanced models won't be coming to these shores any time soon.

Sure makes me re think about buying other tablets or readers now.

now expect the ipad 2 to drop in price (already 5% discount over the weekend) whilst the fire wont burn huge ipad sales its going to move apple to protect its market.
