Kazakhstan Kindle

A few days ago, the wireless function on my 1st generation Kindle inexplicably stopped working, which means I can no longer download my subscribed publications and recently purchased books. I am based in Kazakhstan.
To be more exact, when I turn on the wireless option, the connection bar shows no signal for a few seconds, flashes all bars for about a microsecond, and then goes back to no signal, after which nothing.
I was wondering if anybody else has noticed the same problem and/or whether it might be to do with the fact that I am located in Kazakhstan.

If it's the first Kindle that was ever produced you might get on better asking on the Kindle forum on the US site because they were only ever sold in the US.

As 1 understand it, the wireless in the 1st Gen Kindle never worked outside the US and neither did the first Kindle 2s that were produced - they only began producing ones that would work with international wireless in mid to late 2009

it looks like the one on the lower right of this page? with a little wheel?

I just checked and there were even states in the US that didn't have AT&T wireless coverage

As Susan is in the UK I would guess she means K3.

Good point! But the profile says UK so I assumed that she'd bought it here and taken it out there.
