Anne says:
Sorry to inflict my angst on others but I am just so mad .... The story goes like this :

My Kindle developed a fault in which the top left portion of the screen would not work. It appears to have been broken internally. I called Amazon who were marvellous and agreed to provide a new Kindle as it was still under warranty.

The new Kindle never arrived. I called Amazon and they sent me a second replacement. This arrived and was put into use. No problem and very pleased with Amazon service.

Using the Amazon instructions I printed off the requisite labels and prepared my old Kindle to return. Still following instructions I went on the Yodel website and arranged for them to call to collect my Kindle next Monday when I will have the day off work (because they will not do weekends). I did this on Tuesday.

On Wednesday they called to collect my Kindle and left a note through the door because I was not in. I went to their website and complained to their customer services because they had called several days too early. I got a response promising that they would rebook the collection for next Monday, although it sort of implied that I hadn't done it properly the first time even though I had a confirming e-mail with the correct instructions on it.

Today (Friday) I have returned from work to find another card through the door saying that Yodel have come to collect my Kindle today but i was not in.

I have had enough. I called Amazon Customer Services and they have said that I can send it back by post (I am not risking staying in all day on Monday and Yodel not calling which I am pretty sure is now inevitable). What is more, they will refund the postage (although, to be honest I would pay it myself just to get rid of this package).

Compare and contrast - outstanding service from Amazon, helpful and generous - from Yodel a confused service which has left me deeply frustrated. I am not sure why Amazon have chained themselves to this bunch of incompetents but it has not enhanced the service to me. I will be sure to mention it to both organisations when I make my complaints.

Thank you for listening. Rant over. Blood pressure approaching normal again.... and at least I can now go out on Monday !

Make sure you get a receipt from the PO. It was only a receipt which stopped me from being charged for one I had returned.

Thank you Suze. I think that I will go the recorded delivery route on this (and before Monday when postage prices rocket).

That's what I used. First Class Recorded Delivery. I think it only cost £3.25 and saved the frustration over Yodel.

Last time I returned something - a stainless steel banana tree - the post office clerk entered Amazon's return address number into a machine and it printed out a label to go on the parcel with dates and I got a printed receipt with all details on.

Sorry to hear that Anne - put your feet up now then , and get your hubby to make you a nice cup of tea - I can never understand why Amazon bother with Yodel , after what everyone says - surely some of it must get back to them?
