amazon.co.uk only sell kindles to UK customers. They only sell ebooks to UK customers too, they only own the rights to sell these items to UK customers.

People in Spain have to buy them and the books for it from amazon.com.

There's nothing stopping your friend asking someone in the UK to buy it for them and then shipping it to Spain. but It's likely that the total cost would be far higher than simply buying it from .es. That's why most companies deliver from their local outlet/warehouse/distribution centre. The Spanish store is Amazon's local outlet, and there's no reason why Amazon should absorb the extra delivery cost in my opinion.

The Kindle sold in the UK is identical to the device sold in Spain.

and it's entirely possible that shipping might be free from amazon.es as it is from amazon.fr

and if it's the language that's bothering your friend, have him/her buy it as a gift and then set it up in english

I'd forgotten that .es now has its own kindle store, so yes, if you live in spain you buy a kindle and the ebooks from amazon.es.

It was before that launched that spanish customers had to use .com.

Sorry!

J. H says:
why would you? Just buy it from amazon for free shipping and some piece of mind! I'd never buy anything of value of "some bloke" on ebay..........

I've had mine for 2 years, no issues at all, cheap postage and it was brand new. At the time, Amazon.es wasn't in place so it was the best option, and we were delighted with the service.
