and promos are banned on this particular forum (see the sticky post at the top of the forum "an important announncement from amazon"
you need to delete your post and repost on the meet our authors forum.
before you moan, it's amazon's rule, not ours!

Though it should be added that not all readers hate authors!

I'm constantly surprised by how many authors can't read. You would think that if they had never been on this forum before they would at LEAST read the announcements at the top of the list of threads.

Tui Allen says:
The English are so much kinder to authors who break this rule than the folks on the US Amazon threads. But I suppose they've had to put up with more of it and for longer. Some over there have got to detesting Indie authors for a lot of very valid reasons. Some of them are insufferable at thrusting their half-baked books at these threads, even though they know its against the rules and it can spoil some excellent discussions.

I have no problem with Indie authors - and have read many excellent books by Indie authors. What I dislike is people who think rules don't apply to them for some reason.

A lot of us used to like most of the authors on here, but Amazon didn't give us a choice in the matter. We did have some bad ones who were constantly spamming all posts, 2 in particular, and it caused problems for the rest of them.

We mustn't invoke their names in case they appear again! 95% of the authors were great, and it led to some real gems in ebook form, being found. It is Unfortunate that Amazon decided to get rid of all authors instead of banning the small amount that were being a pain...

Sou'Wester says:
There's no reason why authors shouldn't join in any of the discussions, but not to simply use these forums as free advertising space. It had reached a point where many of these threads contained virtually nothing but spam - most of it pretty pathetic spam at that - and Amazon quite rightly have clamped down on this unwelcome "grafitti". Writers can, of course, spam and plug away to their hearts' content within the "Meet Our Authors" forum, but to continue self-promotion elsewhere in these discussions is disrespectful to other participants - and particularly to fellow authors who play by the rules.

CBRetriever says:
they're not banned - you can go over to the meet our authors forum at any time and browse through their offerings

and it's the same way on amazon.fr - the moment they openedup the forum there authors were spamming every english thread and creating threads promoting their books - made it really hard to carry on an ongoing conversation in a thread

Poor choice of words from me, to clarify - banned from promoting their work on the main forum.
I found the authors that introduced their books, on one thread only, fine personally, I only hated the multi-thread spamming/mishief making that only a few very vocal 'author's were guilty of.
I am not claiming my views are an accurate representation of all on the forum however.

CBRetriever says:
ah, no problem

and maybe in some of the other forums like romance or fantasy forums, there could be so many promotion posts that it could be difficult to find the real book discussion posts, so that's why amazon decided to make it an all forum wide practice to relegate promotional posts to one forum

Tui Allen says:
Agreed Sou'Wester. There's a time and place for advertising and advertising costs. It's not free. Those who cannot afford to pay to advertise must have patience instead and wait until the word spreads about their work. That will happen in time if the work is worthy.
Meanwhile everyone can enjoy these threads. I've had so much fun on them lately. I've got some friends in Europe and all over the world, who I've met in a US Amazon thread who are helping me out with advice for a forthcoming trip to Europe. I've never been there before. In fact never even crossed the equator before and wondering if it will hurt much. They've warned that I'll be expected to wear shoes in Europe and I'm hoping they won't be too expensive.

My views are the same as yours Fi (sorry, it still won't let me type your name without changing it).
I know we can go to MOA but I find it a bit of a pain, and don't go there very often.

It changes it to Fi seta, and no matter how much I change it, it still goes back to seta. It's the same when I type it on the mac and on the iPad, but I can't find where to turn off predictive text.
