Finally given in to the whole Kindle idea and bought myself one (well pre-ordered it at least). Have found this forum useful for books/advice over the last few days - so thanks. My collection is starting to take shape!
Tend to mostly read 'Crime, Thrillers & Mystery', but I'm open to other suggestions...
Looking forward to getting involved on here.

Mr. Jack
Welcome to Kindle world. Since I've had one, have done more reading than ever in my life before.
It's great for info. and book reconsiderations. Can get quite crazy on here sometimes, so any degree of madness can be a real asset..

Edit. Wow a name change already! I can see you fitting in here, very well...:)

Welcome welcome welcome.

Kindles are addictive. Be prepared to ignore your children and/or significant other to browse the threads and snap up freebies :)

Thanks for the welcome guys!
Already bought 15 ebooks, so i think it's safe to say my addiction has started before i even get my hands on the Kindle. Can't believe some of the deals you can get - makes me actually enjoy shopping for a change :-)

Have a look on here

http://www.kuforum.co.uk/free_ebooks/latest/

Click on Amazon Icon and like magic the Amazon page for the book appears.

BUT ALWLAYS CHECK THE BOOK IS FREE JUST BEFORE YOU CLICK TO BUY. (Some books are only free for so long and the price could change while you are looking.

There are other sites too.

Also all the books in the public domain - lots available through Amazon.

Welcome Jack, you'll soon build up a huge collection. Don't forget the freebie sites, ereader.iq.co.uk has new ones every day, with lots of crime/thriller novels.

You haven't said but which Kindle did you buy. I have a Touch but I bought so many books Ha Ha When they reduced the K4 to £69. I bought one and put all my Non Fiction on that to ease the burden the Touch was carrying.

Of course my Touch is starting to get like a real library yet again.

Can't resist them there bargain freebies.

Just thought - you said you preorder your Kindle - - - -.

If you want to start reading straight away you could download Kindle for PC (or Kindle for Mac if you have a Mac) and then visit Manage your Kindle page and download the books you have already bought on to your Kindle for PC. The books will still be listed as pending, waiting for your Kindle to arrive but in the mean time you could read one or two.

Downloading Kindle for PC costs nothing. You get an icon on your desk top.

When you are off-line you can click on it and see all the books downloaded to it (covers in colour) and you can read. Screen is bigger. I downloaded it for cookery books but I put a lot of other books on it too.

Once your proper Kindle arrives you can sit back anywhere and read.

Don't forget a lot of books in the public domain are available free too.

You can put authors names in the search thingy too, Jack London, Edgar Wallace. Kenneth Graham, Jerome K Jerome to name a few.

Gone for lunch now.

K. A. Newton - Thanks for the site and the advice on downloading Kindle for Mac. Actually downloaded it this morning so have them all available on here. Might make a start on one later, just need to decide which one! I ordered the Kindle Fire HD. I was interested in Kindles previously but the new features helped convince me. Didn't realise the amount of deals before i came on here though.

Del Boy's Mummy - Thanks, was wondering how you lot all knew which books were free for the day. Just had a quick look and found a couple of good ones.

Carl Ashmore - Not tried the sample option yet, but will sample it later ;-). Cheers.

Lord Edsock von Puppet - Haha, the cheque is in the post. £30 seems a bargain!

Yes, samples are great. You don't have to trust anyone's advice or judgment but your own.
Welcome!

Hello Jack,
I note that you have pre-ordered the Fire HD and since you say you are 'new to this' I hope you have made the right choice.

The Fire is a backlit computer tablet not a traditional dedicated Kindle e-ink reader. Like any backlit device with a shiny screen, it will be very difficult to read in bright sunlight, whereas the Kindle e-book readers excel in bright light conditions.

I personally think it is a shame that Amazon chose to use the Kindle name, which is synonymous with e-ink technology, for a whole new line of computer tablets. Very misleading in my opinion.

Dave.
