I've read alot of the Sara paretsky books, and have now started on the Sue Grafton series. Anyone know of any other American female detectives I should look at please?
I am also looking at the Kathy Reichs series of books.
Thank you,
Robert

Linda Fairstein. She isn't a detective as such, but the head of the Sex Crimes Unit in New York. Some good story lines and I've liked every book so far, and there's also Patricia Cornwell but I got seriously bored with her and just don't buy anymore.

Thank you Suze - Linda Fairstein is a name I haven't come across before so I'll have a look at them. I do enjoy the Grafton books but prefer the Paretsky series. I tried the Patricia Cornwell books but couldn't get to like the main character very much!

I like the Grafton books but haven't tried the Paretsky ones yet, so thank you. The main character in Cornwell gets worse I think and that's the main reason I got fed up with them.

Couple of suggestions
J D Robb's In Death series starting withNaked in Death: In Death Series: Book 1. Set in the future so perhaps not to everyone's taste.
Karin Slaughter's series starting with Blindsighted - although the main female is the medical examiner, it's similar sort of thing.
Carol O' Connell's Mallory series - does not look like these are all on kindle
Also try Lisa Gardner. In general Fantastic Fiction (www.fantasticfiction.co.uk) is a good website for finding authors similar to ones you know you like so worth checking that out

I really enjoy the Sharon McCone books by Marcia Muller.

I'd forgotten about both Blindsighted and Lisa Gardner. I can never remember the names of authors when I need them, but over the years I must have read thousands of books.

Just thought of David Baldacci too - his series featuring Maxwell and King (one male one female). They are private investigators , both ex secret service and she's definitely spiky!

I agree with A McKinnon - the Marcia Muller series about Sharon McCone set the standard for Paretsky and Grafton. I've recently read Darkness on the Edge of Town (Laura Cardinal Series, Book 1) and really enjoyed it; the others in the series are on my TBR list.

I would recommend the Rizzoli and Iles series by Tess Gerritsen- an excellent series. A very strong female lead detective.

I would recommend the Charlie Fox books by Zoe Sharp. Just downloaded the first one - Killer Instinct - as a freebie and enjoyed it - I'll be buying more! Charlie isn't a detective - feisty ex-army self-defence teacher - but the book was well-written. I've enjoyed the Sara Paretsky books and Sue Grafton ones too, so hope you like this one! Thanks to all for the other suggestions too.

J.A. Jance has some good ones too - especially the Joanna Brady ones (Arizona sheriff) and I like her male series with J.P. Beaumont

and Nevada Barr's Anna Pigeon series is good too - the main character is a Park Ranger in various US Parks (new one each book°

I am Rizzoli in another life - well, the way Angie Harmon plays her anyway.

I'm with woolyjulie on this - Carol O'Connell has created one hell of a character in 'Don't-Call-Me-Kathy' Mallory.

Try Janet Evanovich's 'Stephanie Plum' books. They're lighter than Patricia Cornwell and some of the other authors mentioned. I should start with earlier ones as the author seems to have run out of ideas with the later books - I think she's up to no. 18. Can also recommend J. D. Robb
