The Time Hunters (Book 1 of the acclaimed series for children of all ages)
Groyn try this one. It says it's for kids, but most of us adults have read it and enjoyed it.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Great series ignore the film these are so much better
The Time Hunters (Book 1 of the acclaimed series for children of all ages). An indie writer but really good fantasy funny and exciting.
Skulduggery Pleasant slightly darker children's books but very funny
And of course you can now get the Harry Potter books from the pottermore site.

Mmmm well what sort of things do you like? Have you tried Pawn Of Prophecy (Belgariad). This was written years ago and is a really good series. A lot of modern fantasy are inspired by these. David Eddings also writes another seres with first being The Diamond Throne: Book One of the Elenium (Voyager Classics). I have read these over and over and never get tired of them.

If you like scifi Ender's Game: Ender Series: Book One is brilliant and some really good sword and sorcery Furies of Calderon: Codex Alera 01 (The Codex Alera).

He might enjoy The Hunger Games trilogy. Would others care to put an age recommendation to the series as I'm unsure if it is aimed at slightly older children due to the subject matter?

Florence and Giles is a bit of a spine tingler. Good for adults and an 11 year old boy who is a 'quite good reader'!

Talking about Neil Gaiman, you really should try Good Omens, written with Terry Pratchett. Anything by Gaiman and Pratchett are well worth it, also anything by China Mievelle

Anything by Terry Pratchett is also well worth it. The first book in the Discworld series is The Colour Of Magic (Discworld Novels) and it is probably a good idea to read them in order to get more of the jokes and references, although the first two books are not representative of the series as a whole.

Hi Fi esta
No it really isn't. From my memory is more like 158. I quite enjoyed it - you might like it, have a go, it's free, if you don't like it you can always delete it. It has got good reviews so I was not the only one who liked it. Thanks for your reply, I do come onto the forum sometime but no-one has ever come back to me before.

That's really weird, it is now showing a full book, I swear it showed only 8 pages before, maybe I should have gone to specsavers...

Hippocratia says:
I still see it as 8 pages.
