Have you tried it in a different socket, it may be the socket that could be at fault. Also blow in to the connector/USB see if there is any dust in it.

Is the charging light showing as orange? If so it is charging. I assume you are plugged into the mains.

M Fox, when you charge via the mains the screen doesn't change. It will either be the page you're reading or the sleepscreen depending on whether you've left it on or it's asleep.

When you plug it in to charge you should see an orange light next to the micro USB socket which will turn green when it's complete. If you charge while the Kindle is on you'll see a lightening flash through the battery indicator to show that it's charging.

Incidentally, I use my Samsung mobile phone charger.

Just look at the light on the Kindle.

I always use my mains charger, it takes a shorter time to charge up, I think. It took ages in my USB.

With the mains, you just see the orange light, when it turns to green, it means its fully charged. I hope this helps

I don't often read on my Kindle while it is charging but one night I was reading an exciting book and I wanted to finish it. I plugged a phone charger into a nearby socket mains socket and carried on. You can't do that plugged into your laptop.
